Title: Allison Electronic Dipstick
Post by: amos.harrison on June 14, 2013, 09:22:00 am
Has anyone had a disagreement between Allison's electronic oil level readout and the dipstick?  As you may remember, I had a problem with a leaking dipstick tube a month ago.  When I picked up the coach, the pad readout said the trans was 4 quarts low with the coach level.  When I checked the dipstick, the oil was a quarter inch below the full mark.  What gives?  Which do I believe?

I had a disagreement. The electronic dipstick was right.

Remember, the steel dipstick has to be calibrated. The line on it may or may not be correct. Mine wasn't.

When in doubt go to an Allison shop...

best, paul

there is an old saying in england that if you do not know the answer to something and you make a wrong suggestion you are a "dipstick" which I guess means that they do make wrong assumptions sometimes!!

We have that same saying in the US.

But we spell "dipstick" differently ;o)

But that's not unusual is US/UK dictionaries. But I'm not sure the US spelling can be found in dictionaries. ;o)
