Title: Gurgling refrigerator
Post by: Dick S on June 25, 2013, 07:10:41 pm
We have heard a gurgling noise that seems to come from the back of the fridge. It is not constant. We hear it with the door open and listening from inside. Can't seem to hear it outside by vent cover.Fridge is working fine and holding steady temp.
Is this something we need to worry about?
Thanks.

If you hear a relatively loud gurgling or percolating sound when the refrigerator is in operation (being heated), it is a sign of a bad cooling unit. The key words here are "relatively loud". A good cooling unit percolates when in operation, and if you get close enough and listen carefully enough, you can hear it percolate. However, if you hear noise a few feet away, it is a sign that the cooling unit has lost pressure and is bad.

When gas RV refrigerators, (Dometic, Norcold and selected others) make a reasonably loud gurgling sound this normally means the cooling unit has a leak or has lost some or all of its hydrogen and the water is now boiling. Ouch.  Sounds like the gurgling sound is going to turn into the sucking sound of money flying from wallet.
