Title: Our new Directv HR44 5-tuner HD DVR
Post by: Barry & Cindy on June 26, 2013, 11:36:55 pm
Why is this satellite TV project moved to Around the Fire Ring?  Do most members think this is not a technical part of our RV?  We thought Satellite TV, especially the new technology is pretty important.

Answering questions. . .

5-tuner receivers are free with new 2-yr contract, but there has been no guarantee of which model we will get from Directv.  HR44 from Weaknees (DIRECTV GENIE (HR44) HOME MEDIA SERVER (http://www.weaknees.com/directv-genie-hd-dvr-hr44.php)) is $300 to $1,000).  SWM8 module $120.  That is all that is needed.

HR24 without SWM uses B-band converters on each of the two coax connections at the HR24 antenna connections.  B-bands are a small device with a male & female 'F' coax connector and not used with SWM.  Here is a good diagram, one of many available at Weaknees.  (http://www.swm8.com/1DVR-SWM1-0SPLIT.pdf (http://www.swm8.com/1DVR-SWM1-0SPLIT.pdf) )

Motosat and Winegard use the same antenna and LNB.  The control boxes only aim the antenna and have nothing to do with receivers and in fact will raise antenna with receivers turned off.  Use all 4 coax antenna cables to SWM8 and one coax to receiver.  B-band is part of receiver setup, not part of antenna setup.

Yes antenna & receiver will only work on B-band if there is no SWM in place.  HR24 can connect with B-Band OR SWM.  HR34 & HR44 ONLY work on SWM, probably because they would need 5 coax connectors if working with B-Band.  Both HR34 & HR4 receivers only have one antenna connector.  One of the HR24 coax connectors has a SWM2 label, which is the only one used with SWM.  The HR44 has a SWM5 label on its single coax connector.

The Foretravel Tech Talk board is for technical discussion of the coach itself, not for technology in general.

Not sure where that secret switch is, having a problem with one of the many coaches systems or just need some advice on how to fix something?
