Title: Satellite TV, Antennas, DVRs, and more - understand your latest options
Post by: Barry & Cindy on July 16, 2013, 06:01:51 pm
March 2013 FMCA Family Motor Coaching magazine has the most complete, comprehensive and accurate RV satellite article I have ever read.

It explains satellite TV, DVRs & SWM technology in a sequential way we can all understand.

Here is a link to Barry Beam Alarm's great web site where you can read the article if you don't have the magazine:

Interesting timing, as I had MOT install a Samsung 32" Smart TV today, upon leaving I fired up the sat system and the sat system was dead, could not find its self,
So they just happened to have the Winegard Trav'ler, of
Course it would not work with my older non SWM Directv rx, so purchased one of them too.  Sure glad I did not go with the HD version as my eyeballs can not tell the difference with the Samsung Smart box.
Still appears $2,000+ a day is on target for my 3 days including Xtreme visit.
Still ;D

Agree with Tim about the Traveler.

Wish my slides were as dependable as it is.

Yes it works, Boy is it SLOW setting up and acquiring and locking on the sat system, and even stowing is SLOW too.  Guess  have been spoiled by the in motion system.
Over all, the Samsung Smart 32" is unbelievable good, even the local HD channels are found and work.

Dave"  I installed the new Direct TV travler in my old coach when I bought it.  It worked great but was slow in locking and stowing.  The signal was well worth the effort.  On the 02 I currently have it had the in motion.  I installed a 37in Visio and it works great.  Finally figured out how to get it to move from 110 119  and 101 without having to push buttons.  No HD in my coach antenna but the reg picture is just great.  Only once could I not receive the signal.  I stopped in Dallas at a Walmart and could not receive any signal even on antenna.  Found out later that the infra red from the cameras they had in the parking lot was blocking the signal.  Technology.  DAN

Ditto Dave and Tim, etc....the direct tv traveler Samsung that mot installed has been great for us.  A bit slow as said but still only a few minutes.  Like the ability to get local channels too wherever we are parked.

I need to retread the FMCA article.  Friend of mine put in a pretty fancy system to double the local park wifi and is having problems syncing various routers that are within the system.  He is using his to work on the road.  Brett Wolfe is here too and we want to confer on Steve's versus Brett's.

Forgot to mention one part of the system.  MOT had me buy a Panasonic home theatre from Walmart, about $140, and that runs the surround sound of the tv and  plays blue ray discs and plays our CDs.  Just keep the Bose speakers that FT already had in the coach, use the Panasonic speakers elsewhere or sell them.

Maybe a better way but this good for us.

Dave,

the Winegard uses your last location when it starts to search.  The farther you've traveled since your last set-up, the longer it takes to lock on.  The first time is always the longest.

Brett, Thanks for that tid bit of info, problem, we are on the move between using it.
The quick is th Samsung capturing the locals/non satellite stations, total amazed at th number of local HD stations it finds.
