We modified our roof air conditioner temperature sensor wiring to improve our cooling in hot weather and also, if we want, use front air conditioner to cool bedroom.

Neat trick, I would drill hole and mount the DPDT Bat handle switch IN the A/C grille for a neater job I think. Maybe a smaller DPDT switch, think micro type.
Great write-up. I'm a huge fan of the two stage cooling that I implemented thanks to your advice. This mod just adds frosting to the cake. I like the schematic. Thanks
Interesting. I just have been setting different temps front and back. Then again when it was 104 and really humid last week I put on the third ac. That kept everything nice and cool.
Good idea! We frequently just use the BR AC because it is quieter. Having it use the thermostat temp sensor in front makes sense. Thanks for sharing.

Dave, I decided on the 'over the top' mounting because when we take off the grill for filter cleaning, the switch would make the grill attached and harder to clean. And if we mounted it on the plastic solid part, removing that (with 6 screws) would also keep it attached, so over the top allows everything to be removed as normal. I already had the larger screw-terminal switch, so I used it. You are right that a small Radio Shack DPDT center-off switch with solder terminals would work the same and look lots better and will be put on the list.
Thanks for your thoughts.
We used the front A/C to cool the bedroom last night for the first time and I was quite surprised as to how much quieter the further away roof air conditioner was.
Poor mans solution to same challenge, turn off rear air, set front air at desired temp. Instead of leaving fan on auto, set fan to "high" so it runs continuously.
Adjust front temp so you are comfortable in rear. We close door to salon from bath, but leave door from bedroom to bath open.
High fan keeps temps even in coach front to rear and masks noise as compressor cycles, in this way we use the front a/c at night.
I know this is strange but I have "Tinnitus" so bad in my left ear that the loud sound of the AC drowns out the ringing in my ears so I can sleep. "One man's treasure is another man's junk". If I had good ears I would try this mod.
