Title: AquaHot and Roger Berke - Great Experience
Post by: Jim McNeece on August 16, 2013, 06:22:25 pm
Diesel blower was making a terrible noise.  Suspected bearings.  Looked on Roger's site and saw he offered a Webasto rebuild for $200 plus parts.  Sounded like just what I needed and since we were close by, we just drove over to Tillamook and spent the night at the Elks (really nice place).  Called Roger and he came over about 15 minutes later.  Pulled the blower and I went with him back to his place to watch the rebuild.

He bench tested the Webasto and found that it was the motor causing the problems.  He was able to test all kinds of conditions - battery only voltage (about 12v), charger voltage (13.x volts), full load, etc.  Used a hand-held tach to measure motor speed under the various conditions.

He tore the unit down to last nut and washer.  Inspected everything.  He said bearings were ok, but I asked that he go ahead and replace them (only $53 more).  Also replaced nozzle.  The motor was expensive - $500.  AquaHot is VERY proud of their hardware.  Roger cleaned everything and explained what-was-what throughout the whole process.

About and hour and half later the rebuilt unit was reinstalled and working great.

Can't say enough positive things about Roger.

Hi Jim,
You are right about Roger. He is the best for our Aqua-Hots, and similar units. You guys on the west coast have the best available for your service/repair needs. And the lucky people way down south have Rudy for the same services.

Those of us who have had the benefit of both Rudy and Roger, know well that luck does happen,  Have had both, 3 years apart, check/service & fix my Aqua Hot. Roger had made his east coast swing and was able to nab him about 2009. All joy  ;D
Yes, they can start to add up the $$ when you need a new electric motor, pump, bearings and assorted little goodies, but the end result is worth it.  There is NO free lunch.

Rejuvenating this old thread to toss some more kudos towards Roger and RV Hydronic Heater Repair.  On Rudy's advice, had Roger recondition my really noisy, smoking and leaking Webasto burner.  His rate has gone up a bit since Jim's OP...$400 flat rate including R/T UPS shipping, plus extra for non-routine parts such as bearings, grommets, photo disc, pump seals, and some other parts mine needed.  (His price for bearings was unchanged in 8 years...cool).

Roger also went beyond the expected in personally emailing me the progress of the reconditioning, costs, and shipping delay.  Very much appreciated.

His turn around is usually a day or two.  Mine took abnormally longer due to the Texas freeze, and totally lame UPS delays.  Got it installed and fired up yesterday.  My Aquahot has been very much louder than other coaches around me since I've owned it, but wow, the exhaust is now louder than the Webasto...just a purr coming out of the AH bay now instead of a 747 at takeoff power!  My neighbors are going to be happy.  And I don't have to run the generator to take a shower!

If your Aquahot is starting to make more noise than usual, smoking on startup, or stinking up the bays, you might consider the reconditioning service to keep you in hot water.

Thanks Roger (and Rudy)!  Happy trails y'all,  Woody.
