Anyone have any comments on a SleepNumber mattress in their coach? Thinking about replacing original mattress with one of these will a comfort foam mattress topper.

We tried one for a week .Not good , it found a dumpster quickly . It comes down to different strokes for different folks . Did the topper thing, Been a happy camper ever since . Brad Metzger
I hate air mattresses, ever since tent camping days.
We use memory foam toppers from costco on all our mattress's
Memory foam mattress held too much body heat
Not impressed with sleep number at hotels where they were used
Don't tell Tammy I'm discussing our sleeping arrangements, but we put a deep Simmons Beautyrest in the coach, nothing finer IMHO.
Well maybe we are just different but we like our Sleep Number air mattress in the coach. Saves on weight and both sides are adjustable. I am fussy about I what sleep on so I was in doubt that I would get used to it but it is comfy for us. We like the latex toppers because they don't get hot or hard like the memory foam does.
We have a zoned Talalay latex mattress at home that we love but it would add a lot of weight to the engine cover/bed platform as latex is quite heavy.

Our coach came with an air mattress with dual controls. Brand is "Comfortaire." It has no "numbers," but is adjustable. We put a 3" foam topper on it and find it satisfactory.
An air mattress in an RV is sensitive to altitude and temperature changes. The mattress will get firmer from engine heat and then soften overnight as everything cools down. If you plan to go to high altitude, you may want to let air out of the mattress before you go.
When we bought the U295, there were pillows everywhere.
"Liz, why all the pillows?"
"Dave, if you go over the mountains, be sure to let air out the mattress. My side of the mattress exploded in the mountains and I bought the pillows to use for my bed until we replaced the mattress." :P
Our SOB DP had a bad mattress. It required a short queen size, which is special order only. We went to a mattress factory in Houston to have one made. We specified finished dimensions. We tried several combinations of foam, latex, and pillow top. They made a mattress to our specifications. It was a great mattress. It had to go with the SOB when we sold it because it was the wrong size for the FT. :'(
We love our Sleep Number mattress - one in the house and one in the coach. Everyone has their own preferences but we like the individual control for each side and it is very comfortable. The TempurPedic was too hot and too heavy in our previous coach. The retail buying experience is very good and you can save a few hundred dollars by getting the RV version - basically the same as the P5 model but has one remote and they send it UPS so you do the install and get rid of the existing bed. Our air pump resides on the nightstand and we don't notice any significant from engine heat or altitude changes less than a couple of thousand feet - more than than you are advised to lower the pressure beforehand.
There was one in our 98' U270 when we took delivery in Jan this year. We spent the next month and a half traveling the south. We love the bed. We seem to sleep better in the coach than at home.
And yes it does get warm from the engine, however we have found that if you turn back the bedding the heat will dissipate very fast.
The dual controls are great, DW likes it soft, me a little more firm.

We're Sleep Number fans. We tried Temperpedic but found we would wake up hot in the middle of the night. There's probably no tell if you'll like until you try it.
We had a Sleep Number in our TT and it was pretty good. We just replace our 2004 custom mattress with a Stearns & Foster. So far so good.
We like ours. Transferred it from the previous coach when we traded. Can't tell when either of us turns over or gets up because its like two separate mattresses. Also like others said it doesn't hang on to the engine heat like previous beds did.
The only air mattress I used, was the Rubber Lady the Marin Corp. issued at Parris Island for bivouac at Elliott's Beach,oh I forgot the shelter half.
WE bought an air mattress from Bear Beds. The two pumps are in the foot and don't take up extra space. Hear and altitude are noticeable but the adjustment is easy. Frankly, the best sleep I've had in years was the two single beds in the old Southwind. That'll really get me in trouble!
We have one in our coach and love it. Good night sleep :))
Customer showed me his select comfort in his Contessa in 1991 at a rally.
Became a dealer for them at the time. Bought one for myself. Best bed we ever owned.
Seperately adjustable in king size. Way more expensive now through their own store networks.

We have a sleep number with dual controls. This is my first experence with an air matress. It works well for us. We like the dual controls. As others have said, I sleep better in the coach than the house.
Where do you put the pump?
Hi John:
Ours is on the night stand drivers side, all the wires and tubes go across the back. It takes up about a third of the stand but it is an old one, they may have made them more compact these days.
Yes, newer pumps are a little smaller and much, much quieter. Our old is about 2002, new 2011. Old is a vacuum style high speed impeller, new one is more like a large aquarium air pump.
We had one in our home that we slept on for about 12 years. After a few years the foam started to compress and fall apart. Would not have another one.
Ours is a Comfortaire (Sleep Number wannabe - but no numbers - just up or down). The pump is in the electrical cubby under the foot of the bed. Air hoses and control wires are routed along the top of the island to the head of the bed.
We'll being replacing the Confortaire bed with a "real" mattress. It's one less thing to go wrong when traveling.
One side of the mattress ruptured during our current trip. After a day when we had gained about 2,500' in altitude, we found it collapsed. The ruptured spot had been chafed by the motion of travel. I tried to repair with Eternabond tape, to no avail. I spent one night of the sofa, and then figured out that I could fold the topper and fill the cavity left by the deflated cushion. Getting to sleep beside my bride makes travel much better. ^.^d
Have one ---Hate it.---just get a quality mattress, u will be happier.
Check out the icomfort by Serta. It's similar to a Tempurpedic but not as expensive. Great mattress. Although I have one at home, not in MH (yet).
Just an air mattress with a remote control air pump. Slept on one for 14 years when that called it "select comfort", and hated it.
