Title: Torque Wrench Extension
Post by: Pierce & Gaylie Stewart on September 11, 2013, 11:01:38 am
I had a question from one member and thought I would share this with everyone.

If you can't get your torque wrench in a tight spot like a U joint or the torque is out of the maximum range of your wrench, here is a possible solution: changing the range of a torque wrench, use of extensions (http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/IncTorqWr.htm)

The extension does not have to be straight but can be curved as long as you measure a straight line distance to the socket/wrench/etc.

You do have to remember that doing the math, you will need to set the torque wrench for LESS not more with an extension added. EZ to get the math turned around.

Good point about calibrating your wrench with weights and a vise.

Yup, here is the one I have always used.  Made the extension and did a table with torque values up to 700 ft-lbs for use with my 1/2" drive torque wrench.
