Title: HWH level system out of adjustment - RV-EZ-Level fix
Post by: Barry & Cindy on September 22, 2013, 10:50:42 am
We use RV-EZ-Level to peak our automatic HWH level if needed.  This is an electronic level that measures both axis at the same time and has lights to show which are low.  It is very easy to use.

This is also a good 'emergency' tool to use temporarily if the HWH automatic level is not working, but the manual level buttons still work.

We purchased ours from RV Innovations and it looks like they went big-time and sold out to Camco.

I 2nd the RV-EZ-Level. We bought one on Barry's recommendation and are happy with it.

I like to keep the coach at it's maximum height. The gray/black tanks seem to drain much better when there is a larger height differential between the bottom of the tanks and the top of the sewer drain. When we park I get out the EZ-Level raise the coach then lower where necessary to get level. Very fast very easy. (the leveling not the raising :) ) I rarely use the automatic leveling anymore.

I paid $35 for a like new used one off of ebay. The Amazon price of $37.32 with shipping looks pretty good.

Barry, I must be missing the obvious. How is this an improvement over the HWH indicator lights? I like to level manually to keep it high and just go by the HWH indicators. Thanks.

I initially leveled our coach with a 6' level and a 3' level on the coach floor. After working all the HWH controls to attain bubble on center I then mounted a small single square level with the bubble dead center, on the driver's left window sill. Very easy to check after letting the HWH system do its thing. Final check is if the bathroom door stays wherever we stop it in its swing.

Reply to Jor:

All level systems like HWH or RV-EZ-Level have a tolerance where over several inches it shows as level. Sometimes after automatic HWH leveling, our shower door will stay open, sometimes it will slowly close or open, indicating that there is no exact place that is level.  After and automatic HWH leveling operation, put your HWH in manual mode and see how much you can raise or lower each of the 4 positions and still keep the HWH level lights on, to see the tolerance the system has. We find RV-EZ-Level has a closer tolerance and find it easier to use than keeping the shower door from moving.

I never really understood why you would want to buy a RV-EZ-Level when a simple bubble level would do the same thing.
Is the RV-EZ-Level more sensitive (i.e. accurate) than your average bubble level too?

@John My findings are similar to Barry's. The RV-EZ-Level has closer tolerances than the HWH but is not as accurate as a good bubble level. The advantage the EZ-Level has is that you can place it on the floor in the middle of the coach and view it from the HWH panel as you are leveling the coach. Not so much with a bubble level.

If the HWH is good enough (automatic or manual) for you use it. The EZ-Level is just a handy accessory for some of us.

I use a clinometer app for my smartphone.
Clinometer (+bubble-level) - Android Apps on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plaincode.clinometer&hl=en)

Much like a round bubble level. Available for iPhone and Android

RV EZ Level is the same as two bubble levels with lights. This is the age of technology, why use analog when digital can do it ???

Besides you can see the lights from far even without your glasses on.

I just use my iPhone if I need to check but I did go to the electronic HWH instead of the spider arms. It is  Much faster and I am always level.

Now that you mention it, I have noticed that as well as the door swing. Thanks.

Similar app on iPhone, works great if HWH needs to be "fine tuned " (seldom BTW)

I use a pair of bubble levels installed by the previous owner in the driver's area. I've checked them with other levels placed in various locations in the coach. They are very representative of the attitude of the coach.

The automatic leveling is sufficient, but I often tweak the system with the manual controls.

News flash:

If you have an IPhone, and you do the newest 7. upgrade, the included compass has a new feature, a Level.  Did the upgrade this morning, and actually read and understood some of all the way too many features of the upgrade.  But bubble level was mentioned, and I just checked, it is there with a swipe of your finger when you are on Compass mode.

It shows in black and white, or tap the screen, in red and white, and goes green when level.

Fascinating!  I took my iPhone around the coach.  When the bath sink top was dead level, other spots around the coach floor and cabinet tops showing varying out of level up to 6 degrees.  I guess my coach is shaped like a pretzel.  Maybe I'll just leave the HWH to decide.

"Level" for an RV is when the refrigerator is most level. I learned that when I installed a tiny Dometic refrigerator in an AMF Skamper tent trailer.

As with many things we "learn," it is one way of interpreting how things "are" or "should be" or "how we expect them to be." Your interpretation of level is likely to vary from mine. The HWH usually does a good job of getting close enough to "level" to keep most of us, and our appliances, satisfied.
