Title: Generator stopped charging.
Post by: Keith and Joyce on October 22, 2013, 05:42:06 pm
Cold here, about 40 deg.  Went to move coach from dealership to the lake where it won't freeze.  Started generator and loaded it up with a space heater and the A/C heat strip.  Everything fine for about 10 min.  Then no power.  Generator running OK.  Checked breakers on the generator and everywhere else all OK.  Before I attack things like the ATS (new a few months ago) does anyone know what I may have missed?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have no idea what you have for a generator on the 95 model, but you need to check to see if there is any ac voltage output at all, so you will need a meter to check, the question would be, IS the voltage normal, 120 volt area, or is it in the 5-10 volt area, this will need to be checked with the breakers turned off at the generator.  If you do not have a meter, suggest you find a shop to fix it.

I think you are on the right road.  If all the breakers are solid, I'd carefully start at the ATS and look for input voltage there...then check th ATS output.  Accent on the careful, of course.  Personally, I'd hook up test leads and meter to the ATS...and then start the generator.  But then I hate getting shocked.
