Title: System Monitor Audit 860... not connected???
Post by: LisaUSMC on October 29, 2013, 08:12:02 pm
My apologies if this has been covered I tried a few searches and couldn't find anything.  I have just purchased a "new to me" 1993 GrandVilla 36 ORED, and the back-up camera and monitor have been replaced with a newer unit.  So after much looking and looking, it appears that they didn't bother to hook the Audit 860 back up, so I effectively have no holding tank, water tank, voltage, or propane monitor.

I lifted the dash and can see the wiring harness with the pink wires that runs to the 860, but can't see what I would need to attach to the new display, they all look like standard 12 or 14 gauge automotive wires, no coax that I can see.

In reading I have figured out that the select switch was intended to switch between the backup camera and the system monitor, so I am expecting to see coax or some sort of AV cabling, somewhere...  Any wiring schematics for the original backup camera / Audit 860 would really help, honestly any information would help!

Learning as I go... Lisa

Lisa  ----  Go to the RVcams.com site and get the number to call and tell them what you have and chances are they can supply you with the proper connectors.  I just replaced my monitor with one from them and they knew exactly what I needed to patch it together.  It is installed and working very well.  There is a discussion on this in the forum not too long ago.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

By the way, welcome to the forum!

We had a 91 ORED 36 and enjoyed it a lot.

Thanks for the Welcome!  DH and I fell in love with the older Foretravels a long time ago!  I love the craftsmanship that goes into these coaches, they are beautiful, and well ahead of their time!

Lisa,

Welcome to the forum.  You will find that a number of members have given up on the Audit system for tank gauges and rear camera monitor.  What was done to my 93 U225 by Kent Speers, was to add the most excellent SeeLevel system.  It uses one of the wires from the tanks to get info to the dash.  The dash unit looks great, and you can regain all your tank info for the propane, fresh, grey, black, and voltage again, for not much money.

Here is the link to the company:  SeeLeveL Liquid Level Gauges by Garnet Instruments Ltd. (http://garnetinstruments.com/)

I also have the wiring info in the coach for the Audit system, but miles away.  But I can add that to my gallery next time down.

rpettway - SemperFi!!!

Dave and Dolly Cobb - Thank You for the Link, those monitors look great!  May I ask where you fit the system onto the dash?

Feeling A lot more educated after an evening of browsing this site!  Lisa

Lisa,

Kent installed the unit where the old dead monitor was removed, using a piece of black textured plastic to fill the old hole and then screwed the monitor to the plastic.  It looked like factory when done that way as it matched the rest of the dash.

He them installed the rear view monitor on the left side of the dash on what is the driver's hidden compartment.  Link photo:  coach 11 04 - sailwing's Photos (http://sailwing.smugmug.com/Coach/coach1104/16611668_tgsQdF#!i=1251898517&k=BZsgBXH)

The left position worked as you tend to look left at the mirror.  Bill Chaplin mounted his SeeLevel in the same place on his dash, but he chose to mount his new color monitor above the dash, and he added two side cameras that show when you touch the turn signal lever.

Our monitor is still working.  But I will do the Seelevel the way that my U225 was done when I upgrade.  With a new color camera, the monitor will be on the left side of the dash by the side window.

This link takes you to coach wiring, photo 15, is Audit wiring.

 ^.^d
I spent this morning looking at the dash, and I think that I agree with you, the left of dash position for the back up camera is much more natural and a pretty easy fit!  Sadly the retro that was done on my coach is kinda hinky, so I would like to see it go fairly quickly.  I really like the idea of my tank monitor system being separate, it seems like it would be easier to check at a glance.

I couldn't get the links to work, but I think I understand how your unit was mounted!

There is so much info on this forum!!! I love that there is such a community around these awesome coaches!

I installed my SeeLevel display in the bathroom on the side of the sink cabinet.  It is easy to run the wires down along the drain to the tanks and power is available from the light switches right above where I mounted it.  The only long wire I had to run was forward to the lead from the LP Gas sensor.

Monti - Great location! I guess the bathroom is where you are when you are thinking about your tank levels!  I would have to run a line to the front to the h2o tank, but I think everything else would be close!  Good Option!

Lisa,

Congratulations and welcome to the forum.  There are many good folks here who are more than willing to share their knowledge and expertise on any situation or problem that you may encounter.

I bought my 93U300 last year and discovered the prior owner had replaced the monitor and camera in 2007.  It was replaced with an audit 860 b/w by javelina which is like the original one that you should have.  I found the wiring diagram in one of my manuals and this is how mine is wired.  Here's a jpeg showing the hookup for the ocd camera and holding tank monitor.  I also have the operator's manual 860/1160 if you need a copy.

Jerry... um... Murph...

Thank You so Much!!!  I was pretty sure that the metal box under the center of the dash was the audit.... but was absolutely baffled by the connector. I thought for sure I would be looking for a coax line, and was beginning to fear that the previous owner had started hacking wires, which would be a whole new can of worms!

Thanks Again for the warm welcome, and the Help!  (I will keep in mind your offer for the instruction manual... still have a lot of paperwork to flip through)
