Where would I be able to find information on towing capacities for the older 80's vintage coaches? My searches generally tend to bring me here or Barry Brideau's site, but I haven't been able find anything definitive from either at this point. Of course, it's possible that I missed the info entirely. Is the best option to contact Foretravel directly at this point?
Thanks!
Devin
Devin,
The oshkosh chassis that carries the older FTX coaches and the some Grandvilla coaches are as follows. The V-715 6-lug wheel has a 5K rating the V-917 10-lug is a 10K rating. Now I have the V-715 under my coach and an 8.2 detroit powering it. I pulled a custom built triple axle trailer designed for hauling equipment. (I was in the equipment business when I bought the coach.) I attended many auctions around the south and central states. I used my coach as my office and I hate motels. The trailer empty weighed 5000lbs and many times I had 10,000 lbs or more on it. I of course did have brakes and never had a single issue. The largest load I had was a small dozer for a total towing weight of 19,000 lbs. I would not advise this of course but just a testament to the quality of the coach and chassis. This haul was only across the state of TN with no major hills to deal with and a cruise speed of 60mph
Remember; all towed equipment above 2k lbs must have brakes according to most laws
That's great info, James. Thank you.
My truck is set up to be flat-towed and I was curious if the chassis was rated to pull something that heavy (it's a 1500HD crew cab). I'm guessing I won't be making any record ascents up the passes in Colorado with my truck in tow, but the knowledge that the chassis can handle it if I take my time saves me the headache of dealing with local transport once I get to my destination.
I've already got an M&G brake set-up in the truck, so I'll have to have the coach side air lines set up and I should be good to go.
Thanks,
Devin
