Title: Which in motion sat dish for Direct TV?
Post by: turbojack on December 01, 2013, 09:42:39 pm
I have the motosat in motion dish that has worked great with my Direct TV receiver. Got notice from Direct TV that I was needing to update my receiver and they would send me one free. The new one does not have the data port the old receiver had that my motosat used to communicate with. I was looking at getting a new in motion dish, but which one do I get?

This is a good question.  I have been looking for an in motion antenna for my Direct HD.  A friend has a County Coach and he can have his tv on going down the road and receive a great continuous picture.  I have an old trac star and cannot lock while the coach is moving.  I had the new wineguard which is a disk that raises up on my last coach.  You would not raise it so it would not provide a signal while moving.  I have got to ask my friend what system he has but he is away on a trip right now.  If anyone has a moving signal please let me know what system it is.    DAN

There are no Directv High Definition in-motion or domed satellite antennas, that I a aware of.

Directv HD is only available with 3-LNB's which are only on open antennas which are only sold by three companies, with the most popular being Winegard.

Barry/Cindy:  I know my friend has Direct Tv and watches it going down the road.  I will find out how this is done as soon as I can and will post.  DAN

You can get Direct TVwith an in motion system - you just can't get HD channels.

Yes you can have non HD directv with an in motion dish.  We have it and watch TV going down the road all the time.  But there is NO HD for in motion with Directv.

We will be dumping the trac star and move to the wineguard HD in the spring.

So you are going to go with stationary only to have HD?

I thing I would rather have an in motion dish and live without HD.  Looks like if you want in motion and HD you have to go to Dish Network.

The WINEGARD MISSION IN-MOTION SATELLITE ANTENNA  is the one to get? It will do HD for dish but only standard for Direct TV

Lots of people watch Directv while going down the road with an in-motion domed antenna, just not in High Definition. Good old Standard Definition looks fine.

An open dish will receive High Definition, work ok 500 miles north of the US border in Canada, and not have morning rain fade.

Domed Directv dishes can receive Standard Definition, record and watch while driving, but have reduced fringe signal strength due to thick plastic dome and small LNB & reflector.

Open dishes can have multiple LNB heads and domed in-motion antennas currently can only have one LNB head, limiting reception to only one satellite. Logically that one satellite could have High Definition, so maybe HD in-motion could be made to work, but all channels would not be available at the same time.

Yes we will give up in motion for stationary HD.  And no, we won't switch to dishnetwork.  Been there, won't go back.

Go with Dish network and it all works!
