Title: Engine Door Safety
Post by: Old Hippie on December 14, 2013, 01:25:44 pm
The possibility of the engine door falling worries me. I was thinking about drilling a 5/16 hole through the door raising mechanism so I could insert a pin to keep it from falling suddenly.
Any better ideas for this?

Hey... there's always a door conversion at Xtreme:    http://xtremegraphics.net/graphics/ourwork/stallingsreardooropen_650x650.png (http://xtremegraphics.net/graphics/ourwork/stallingsreardooropen_650x650.png)

You are correct to worry about the engine door falling. We put two carabineers around one door support and knob that the latch grabs when closed. Lots of different ways to add a safety device.

FYI on for the Xtreme rear door conversion, Rance put a long piano hinge across the width of the opening and our 'new' engine door is MUCH lighter and hinges upward, being held up with two air struts. Dave Metzger and others have the same door conversion. We prefer the lift up conversion instead of the door split and open sideway conversion shown on Xtreme's web site.

A Picture vs 1,000 words-- Thought I had better pix.
Feel one of the best upgrades I had done, everyone, MOT, FOT shops love it, think everyone should do it. Thanks to Rance again.
