Title: Girard arm broke
Post by: Retired Navy Chief on December 30, 2013, 07:58:49 pm
As I was bringing in the awning the rear cracked and broke at the pivot.  My questions are, is this common?  How hard is it to replace?  I'm in Ohio an heading south in Feb so I could stop at Tenn RV and use motorcade discount.  Suggestions please.  Thanks,  David

These arms will break if the awning is not fully extended and gets a heavy rain on it. They are not hard to replace if you know how. You would have to contact Tenn rv to make sure they have the arm in stock as most places do not have the arms in stock. The arms come from California.

Several years ago a dead limb fell and broke the forward arm on our coach. I ordered a replacement from FOT and they drop shipped it from Girard to my home. Seems like it was around $400. Not hard to install for someone that's changed one before, took me twice as long as it should have. Once installed it must be properly adjusted.

David, I doubt TN RV will have the arm in stock, give them a call and have them order you one, if necessary. I had two break after a rain storm caught me with the awning out. They were replaced at TN RV and Brad or Jimmy or both do a neat job replacing them. They have a very hospitable and efficient operation there, now.
ps: nice looking coach!
