Title: Bedroom electronics
Post by: TheBrays on January 07, 2014, 03:21:15 pm
I think I have the solution for one of the mods I want to make to the TV setup in the bedroom.

I have already swapped the 13" Panasonic for a 19" Vizio but am still relying on the original coax from the front. Right now all it carries is the over-the-air signal from the coax line switch. (The new Directv HD box doesn't have a coax out - it goes HDMI to the TV). No great loss for me but Mary gets tired of football games ::)

I wanted to install another Blu-Ray player and a Directv SD box for the bedroom and liked the job someone did of installing them in the wall below the TV in the space where the top drawer goes but my woodworking skills/tools are not quite good enough for the caliber of job I want.

Then Barry (of Barry and Cindy fame) posted about IR Repeaters. I bought one

$17.64 plus shipping from MonoPrice.

Instead of cutting up the bedroom drawer I expect to put the electronics inside it and run the IR receiver just under the TV.

Attached are a couple of pictures of the loaded drawer.

We'll see how successful it does.

I try to emulate the two best dressed folks I know of, Odd Thomas and Jack Reacher.
I do have this pile of socks I have to figure out what to do with though. ;D

Good idea looks like to me. More than one way to skin that cat.

The IR extender is a terrific idea! I also have two BluRay players (they're under $60 each now so why not?). A previous owner had installed satellite dish controls on the shelf in the closet curbside just forward of the bedroom bulkhead. We took out the old satellite dish and so I can put the BluRay on that closet shelf and control it with the IR extender.

Spiffy! :)
