Well we took the plunge yesterday and ripped out the carpet in the bathroom and boy an I glad we did! We had planned to do it this summer since it always took forever to dry out after shower. Well while in FL over Christmas the floor just would not dry upon inspection I found a small leak in the toliet too. After removing the toliet the seal was in bad shape so a new one is on order.
After ripping the carpet out I found the floor was frozen :o (it's been below ZERO most of last week). So I put the space heater and fan on for about 24 hours. I inspected all the wood and found that the floor was solid and not damaged. However after 20+ years of stepping in the same 1 square foot after a shower the floor had a dip in it. So I used some leveling compound and leveled out the area. After drying I began installing the floor. We picked out a floor made by ALURE for high traffic, moisture restisant areas that we found it at Home Depot. Due to the small size one box is more than enough. Bad thing is it's like building a jigsaw puzzle so patience is a must.
I'm posting some pics now and once the parts come in for the toliet I'll post the end result. I also installed new headlights while waiting for stuff to dry....
@Jeff It really is a jigsaw puzzle. Measure, cut, install, measure, cut, install, repeat, repeat, repeat... It's pretty sweet when the last piece goes in. :))
You're going to love the tile. Carpet is never a good idea in the bathroom!
see ya
ken
Floor a done just still waiting for the toliet seal but I have question for others that already remodeled theirs or just have good ideas (someone always does lol)...
The carpet that was removed was coving the access behind the toliet. The DW is thinking of installing a curtain but I was thinking of a false wall that I would then Velcro it under the cabinet behind the toliet. Opinions??? Or if you have already finished this project how about a photo?
Thank you all!
Jeff
I like the idea of the false wall. A curtain just doesn't look finished to me.
Stainless Steel access panel with remote control LED lighting.
Seriously, luan stained the right color - you wont know its there.
Dave & John,
Did either of you do yours or were those ideas? I do like the stainless idea....maybe a Star Wars or Star Trec feel lol....DW would kill me ;D
Lol.. like the Trek idea.
Actually the Mari gratis stainless treatment is very fashionable in hig end homes.
My u280 is closed in factory. Luan is how I have done it in cabins etc.
Finished it all today!!! I installed a false wall out of spare pieces behind the toilet. All and all I'm pretty happy with it. The chalk is clear but in the photo it's white just because it hadn't dried yet.
Jeff, looks finished ^.^d
