Hello All.
Would like info/help on how we can add a screen door to our !995 U300.
Thank You
Hans
Looking forward to reading the responses you get, as I have the same year and model -- and wondered the same thing.
When it is nice and warm outside -- that slide-up window in the door just doesn't cut it for fresh air entry.
All the best,
Michael
Hey Michael.
Been reading lots of your posts, need to replace the fuel lines this spring on the Cat..any short cuts you'd like to share.?
Hans
Hans,
One of the reasons my wife made me sell our 95. From everything we learned not possible.. But, IMHO, someone somewhere could find a way.
FWIW
Was the SE not equipped with it.??
Our 1996 U280 36ft doesn't have a screen door either. Wife wishes it did.
Our 1995 has a screen door. It is a SE. Mark
I wonder if one of those retractable screen doors would work? They usually have one on display at the home stores (Home Depot, Lowes).
Mark
Could you show us some pictures of the screen door?
I will try to take some pictures on Monday. I don't have a clue as how to get them posted here, but I have to learn this computer stuff some time. Mark
I just checked and there are some pictures still on the website where I bought it. Google Sonoran Truck and Diesel 1995 Foretravel and there are pictures. I will still try to post better ones just of the door next week. Mark
Our 1996 U295 36' has no screen door, and according to FOT, one was not available. It is the only real bitch my wife and I have about the coach.
The one with a screen door looks like it was an after market product. Mid-entry Unihome. 280SE
A U300 is probably a different configuration than our U320. The U300 is a mid-entry, right? Ours was a bus style front end with a front entry ... narrow door with no option for a screen. REALLT made me sad ... but I did think of the retractable or an overlapping split type that I could velcro in place when necessary. Needs a creative mind .....
Carol, the U300 is quite different. Our U300 has a screen door. I'm not sure if ours is an SE or not. According to the floor plans on Barry's site, ours is an SE. However, I find no markings anywhere to indicate that. We're talking about a trip down to Nac so maybe we can find out there.
David, I thought your U300 had a side hallway, maybe an SBID. I believe the SE all had a walk through bathroom with the toilet and shower on the passenger side and the closets on the drivers side. Otherwise they were pretty much the same.
I hope you enjoy your trip to NAC. We always do. By the way, Alton is the foreman in the FOT shop. He was in the plant building coaches in 1993. He knows just about everything there is to know about our coaches and Wayne in the alignment shop knows the 6V92 as well as the chassis stuff. There is also a good Detroit mechanic in NAC by the name of Bernd. You can get a number for him from James Stallings at Xtreme if needed. FWIW
I believe this is Bernd's info:
Bernd Ramspeck
1917 E. Main
936-707-1584
Bernd was an electrical engineer who decided he liked fixing better. Tough to pin him down as he is always working and he will take on jobs too big but a good guy never the less.
I am not having much luck getting these pictures to show up, but I will give it another try. My FT is jammed in my storage building so these pictures are not that good. Mark
Mark is there a brand, or model # any where on the screen.
Hi Jimmy. I did not notice any markings at all. I will take a real close look tomorrow and let you know. Mark
Mark, Thanks
Mark..
Thanks for the photo's, now to continue the search for the manufacturer .
;D
Hans
I checked out the screen door and there are no numbers or names on it anywhere. I always thought it was factory, but maybe not. The gasket and the hook that let's you lock the doors together work fine, but don't look like FT quality. If it is an aftermarket door it must have come with the long piano hinge for the main door because there are two four inch sections top and bottom that are used for the screen door. It does not look like the old main door hinge was modified for this. Maybe the company that made the main door would know more? Mark
I just looked at the PTL Engineering web site and it shows the long piano hinge with the two sections for the screen door and the brackets for the door. It looks like they would be the guys to check with. I found PTL on Barry's site under doors. I'm not that smart! Mark
