I have this step switch near the entrance door that allows the step to remain retracted even with the door open. It it so useful especially when you are parked close to a curb and would not like the steps to extend and hit the curb.
Apparently, the factory won't do this modification due to safety reasons. Mine was done prior to my purchasing the coach, however, the switch plate that was used is just a standard one, and doesn't match the rest of the radius cornered "Foretravel" switch plates.
So I call FOT and order a FT switch place, one with no label, such as makeup, fan, etc., one with just the Foretravel text on the bottom.
Along with some other items I ordered, I received the switch in the third pic below. I call back FOT and explain what I received, and what I need, and they send me the switch plate in the 4th pic, one that is basically like the one I have (and the text isn't even centered!) I call them back again, and they explain that since they don't do switches like that anymore, they don't have what I need.
So my question is, does anyone know of any salvaged Foretravels in Southern California where I might be able to find one of these switch plates? I'm looking for one like the one to the left in the last pic below.
Jennifer... give Robert McGrath (936-569-1600) at Encore (just up the street from FOT) a call as they may well have the unlabeled Foretravel switchplate you're looking for: Older Motor Home Parts & Decals (http://www.encoremotorhomes.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57&Itemid=136)
Thanks Pat, I just called and I'm emailing them a pic of what I need right now.
Please let us know what you learn. I'd like to get 1-3 of those myself for the extra switches I added.
Were they able to make what you needed? Looking for some extra switch plates myself to add some additional light switches in various places.
Thanks,
Evan
FOT has (as of this past Fall) some switch plates with limited selection on labels. I think the he one I got in the fall said "Floor Lights." I made some out of some plastic I had and played around with some spray paint until I got a pretty good match. If you make some, you can swap plates around to put the ones without labels where they are not seen very often. Like for the TV antenna booster switch in my front overhead cabinet.

I have about a dozen each of 1, 2 and 3 hole plates same size as original. Laser cut stainless steel. They have screw holes in the corners and the correct sized holes for the switches. They are not painted. Switches too with a 1 and a 0 on the rocker.
Let me know if you are interested.
I have been painting the switch plates with a high temp wrinkle paint they look great. The little black screws are hard to find.
Jennifer, look in the BR for a switch that turn on the BR vanity light. Use that plate with the FT border up front where you can see it, put the plain one in the BR out of sight.
I never had any luck with Encore, I should have reported back here.
Roger, I'd love to purchase one of your switch plates. Then, good idea, I'll do the switcheroo with your plate in the bedroom, and the original FT plate up front.
Roger, I bought some #4 stainless Phillips screws--screwed them into a board (about 50 screws) then glass beaded them so they hold paint pretty good
Chris
Seems like FT used them everywhere. I save all I can and have a reasonable supply but not 60.
Roger - You continue to amaze me. Laser cut - ^.^d
