Just heard back from the mechanic...it wasn't a thing to do with the obsolete Bendix system. They found the gear drive srcew that comes out of the Allison transmission had sheard off. That gear drives both sending units off that T fitting. They are going to replace that part then test the Bendix system. I guess now it's just matter of if it all works again do I replace the Bendix anyway or just continue on with it....Up until hitting that re-tread I never had any issues with the system. I know that nothing lasts forever but I hate to scrap something that is working just because it's obsolete.
Any input would be nice....thanks guys/gals
As I remember, the Bendex parts are not only obsolete, but next to impossible to find new parts for. I chose to install a new King Control cruise control system. I believe it is the only option for us on the market beside jerry rigging our currently installed systems to keep them up and running. But it sounds as if you are dealing with a Allison part which should still be available!!
I use to have access to a locally owned independent machine shop that would machine anything for me, but alas, he has gone out of business. So if I want something that I can't buy, or can't make myself, I am out of luck and at the mercy of the current market place, which is limited.
Having just lately taken the whole Bendix cruise system apart as I had a problem on the 240 I have a little input to give. I was about to replace it with King but found after taking all valves and cylinder apart they were all just needing a service and lube(cylinder). I checked the readings of Potentiometer and that was good too. I poured thin oil down the cable sheathing to lube and put it back.Works fine.
I did not have a problem with senser. My problem was sticking idle but is controlled by cruise.
This is a simple system to take apart and work on so I would do that first now you found the real problem and leave it on till it does not work anymore.

Thanks John...that's what I have been thinking too. As long as the Allison part fixes the problem and the Benidix is working I'll keep it. I'll have them lube the cable as you described as long as the sensors check ok.
Called a pencil gear. I replaced it on my '87 and never had another problem. Sold it 6 years ago and it's still working.
