Title: Blue Ox Apollo Air compressor needed
Post by: Jon H on April 22, 2014, 05:52:22 pm
 >:D  Need to replace the Blue Ox Apollo air compressor in my aux. braking system. Blue Ox no longer supports this model although they've offerred $450.00 towards an upgrade to the current Patriot system (1,350.00).  Can't build more than 85 psi pressure and compressor never shuts off. Can't find any other air leaks in system and suspect reed valve in compressor.

I am not familiar with the blue ox system but does it have to be that compressor?  Compressed air is all the same.  Could even take it from the coach supply?

FWIW.

Blue Ox Apollo uses a small 12 VDC air compressor - similar to a portable tire inflator - to power system. Just plugs into car's cigarette lighter plug.

How much pressure does that thing build???  I have a Brake Buddy classic that looks very similar in function.  It uses 45-65psi for most weights of tow vehicles.

I just found a second Brake Buddy at a thrift store with a faulty gauge and will be selling it as soon as I get the guage replaced and make sure that it works.

The pressure switch on the air resevoir is labeled 135 (psi I assume). The operating pressure going to the air cylinder is adjustable, via a regulator, to between 40 - 120 psi approx.  The pressure gauge shows the regulated pressure - not the resevoir shutoff pressure.

Sounds like it must be pretty similar to the BrakeBuddy then.  The BB gauge is 0-160.  I don't know what the reservoir holds.  You have me curious now.  I'll have to check it.
