Title: Dash air gauge replaced with mechanical
Post by: Michael & Jackie on April 23, 2014, 06:57:32 pm
You can find a thread, back in yahoo 2009, "air pressure gauge unstable" but I could not tag onto that to post this.

A friend had the symptoms that i had with a 2001 U320, unstable gauge, and we were talking about what I used to replace the gauges.  The original electrical gauges were not available.  The 2009 post had the same symptoms so I am thinking I may have steered my friend in the right direction, at least he can try.  And he wanted to know the source of my gauges.

This is the source, and photo of installation is attached, should you need such a replacement.  I think John S. has about the same.

Would please me if there were senders that would tie into the VMSpc to read both Primary and Secondary psi, would also be happy if it included brake application psi also, but no see it listed as such, maybe I need to call Silverleaf to see what they have up their sleeve, as on the fancy dash, the info is shown electronically.
Never ending possibilities.

I think the gauges look nice. Since there will be a pair, it looks balanced. I wonder how difficult it is to install? Where are the air lines coming from? I suppose off each tank up front. David

Yes, I put them in up front one to a tank when I did mine. They do not have any new electronic gauges so I had no choice but put in mechanical.  You have to leave the electronic ones hooked up or the level light came on but they are wired tied under the dash.

Dave,

I would like air pressure data on VMSpc as well.  I didn't see it either. Let us know if you get any thing back from SilverLeaf.  My gauges died this winter (or that part of the blue box did) so they are not functional right now.  They may be good and could be powered from an inline transducer.  Lot cheaper to replace them with mechanical gauges.  No fix for the blue box age related problems either.

John, I have the danged alarm chime go off on me time to time due to no signal now from the mechanical gauges versus the electronic.  Mike Rodgers told me he knows no way to silence that without silencing the chime system completely, thus having no chime ring for some problem that occurs.

But maybe there is a way?

Mike

Mike that was my issue too.  I think the only way it to replace the whole system.  I will just live with it as it is.
