Title: Entry Door Window Seal Broken--Fogging on the inside
Post by: Rich Bowman on May 07, 2014, 04:14:32 pm
A couple of days ago, I noticed that the entry door window is starting to fog when in direct sun.  Anybody have any experience with replacing these?  Are they a stock item at Safelite or do they need to be special ordered?  Can the original be removed and rebuilt?

Thanks,

Rich

The window should be removable to re do the seal. I hjave done a couple of ours (not door) and it is easy. Have 2 more to do sometime as seal is creeping slowly.

Hi Rich,
I replaced the entry door glass on our 1997 U 320. It was not hard. I had to order the unit from Creative, the manufacturer. That company is no longer in business. Peninsula windows sells a better window. There are a few places that repair them. They have been talked about here before. There is a place that sells repair kits. I have never used that method. If you replace the window use the new type sealing material and you will not be cleaning the grey putty off your new install every summer. Xtreme can help with the seal material, and anything else concerning windows.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll let you know what we decide to do.  May be awhile.  We're leaving on Saturday for Alaska so don't know when we'll be in one place long enough to get things repaired.

Hi Rich,
The kit to do your own repair is from Dave Root RV Glass Repair. The phone number is 541-280-3612.
Of course you can find them on the internet.

I had my 99 do that. I called FT and they had a new one the dropped in.  Now a days I do not know if you will have to order.  I would call them or xtreme.

Current thought concerning door / window dual pane glass will be from Pennsula Glass, never heard any bad news from their product.

Thanks for all the input.  I think he window was replaced by the PO.  It is from Pennisula glass.  The rebuild kit from Dave Root is about $330.  These guys will repair it for $375 and warranty it for a year.  Takes 2-4 hours but there is currently a 6 week wait in Elkhart.  I have not yet contacted Pennisula but will for a quote.

Howdy Rich,  We had several windows with "snaking" seal creep repaired at this RV Fog Dr in Searcy, AR.  Link: RVFogDr (http://rvfogdr.com/)
Great facility.
Good Luck, Dave A
