Title: Headlight conversion - which should be Hi-beam
Post by: ChuSmith on May 14, 2014, 01:10:49 pm
We got our coach back on Friday, ( Arrived Thursday i pick up, but that is a whole other story) and we actually used the headlights the last 30 miles of the trip.  On our cars that have this type Headlight, the outside Magnified beam (A) is the Lo beam and make a very detailed light image that you can see the line across the top of the projected image of light just like a movie projector (hope that makes sense). And the inside beam (B) is the Hi beam. That is not how Foretravel has set these up. They have the inside lights (which are superbrite spread and angled closer to the coach and the outer beams aimed high out away from the coach.

What I am wondering is if you have this setup, does yours work the same way?

The low beam should be the outer one.  This defines the width of the vehicle to oncoming traffic.  It should cut off so as not to blind oncoming traffic while still illuminating the right hand of the road.  High beam should project parallel to the vehicle and slightly down.

That is correct. By Federal regulation the outermost headlights must be the low (sometimes called "dipped") beam. They have a more-controlled pattern than do the high beam lights, and must aim slightly down and have more intensity to the right (shoulder side) than to the left.

The Low beam is on the outside according to the dash indicator. It may take some getting used to but it doesn't shine out like the cars do.

Have the headlight aim checked and adjusted if necessary. Based upon your description, something doesn't sound right.
