Post by: wolfe10 on May 18, 2014, 09:15:18 pm
This 1995 U240 just appeared on Craigslist in the Houston area. I have no personal knowledge about this one.

Definitely worth lookin at in a couple months. Seems to have been very well cared for. Will most likely sell fast at that price!

Talked with owner, Said Icemaker leaks , roof leaks due to tree limb incident, Needs mother board for leveling system. Claims it is mechanically sound. $15,000.00 would probably buy this coach...

Since the decals have been removed, the headlights are little cloudy and the roof has some (how much) damage from a tree limb, you know it has been stored outside. Lot of plastic vents, covers, etc on the roof so the damage could be limited to them. On the other hand, there could be water damage inside that would really limit the value and marketability.
The 3116 is a straight 6 and while the early models had some block problems, they were cured many years before this model so the engine should be a good choice. The huge engine compartment door is a big plus compared to the earlier models. Sure wish we had it on ours. Makes working back there much easier.
Could be a nice rig. As far as price goes, the outside storage, unknown roof damage will bring the price down to half or less of an nice coach garaged it's entire life.

Brett, For some reason this coach looks familiar, has it been advertised somewhere else also ? Wish there was some identifier that would make it easier to see what and where these are. I looked for the MC number and did not find it. Gary B

Gary,
Don't know. Have not seen the coach or talked with the owner. It is about 75 miles-- on the other side of Houston from where we live.

been emailing and talking to the owner-Gary and asked for many more pictures and info a few times. I do not think he is serious as he has not done anything in over a week as far as replying with pics etc. JohnH

We've been thinking of selling ours but at these prices I don't think so. We have a 97 Geo Tracker as a toad. Would make someone unable to afford a decent MH a quality unit or retired couple who don't want to part with the bricks and sticks something they could hit the road in. Everything works, no leaks, new LED TV up front, new A/C units, new air dryer, new hydraulic fan pump. Ceramic tile in kitchen and bath. Looks nearly new inside. You'd think the bathtub was never used. Original carpet even looks new. Queen bed is the most comfortable sleep I've ever gotten. Even looks pretty good outside too with most of the decals intact. Dash air functions only with a recharge before a trip. Tires are about five years old. Bulkhead is ok with three bad bolts checked with torque wrench. Out of shims in the rear which is the biggest issue but still in spec so perhaps she's done settling. Also should reinsulate engine and generator compartment. Generator works too. I exercise it monthly. I have free storage a few miles from my office with water and power so I use it to get ready for any special work related suit and tie events which means no hour drive back and forth to/from the house. But even at $25,000 for coach and toad I'm taking a big loss. Been thinking about buying a lot with a garage/storage building out in the boonies for de-cluttering our house and getting my classic car out of the garage to make room for daily driver (can't put storage building at my house due to deed restrictions and my wife is kind of a hoarder). I'll just use the darned thing as a place to get out of the heat and use the bathroom when there. At these prices we're not selling...just giving it away. When I bought it I figured it had already depreciated down as low as it could go. Considering all the equipment, engine, generator, 6 speed Allison, air compressor plus entire living area...can't believe value has dropped so low. Not enough people know the value of Foretravel compared to most of the others. It is safe to say that if you line up every coach valued at $17,500 the older Foretravels will be the best by far.

There is no other option under$ 30,000 for a great used coach. The one in Houston needs some pretty significant repair @ roof if nothing else. Probably why he is so motivated.
