Title: Zip Dee Awning upgrade
Post by: TheBrays on May 20, 2014, 07:39:01 pm
I didn't find the "What did you do ..." topic so here is another.

We stopped for an awning upgrade and check up  at the Zip Dee factory in Elk Grove Village, IL  on our way to Marquette, MI yesterday afternoon.

We had then apply the NX upgrade to our big awning mounting configuration ( NX Hardware Upgrade Kit (http://awningsbyzipdee.com/60401/60422.html) ).
What it does is change the way you hook the upper support arm from hooking into the slot at the roof to hooking it onto the roller, a much easier process.. (see web page).

Two hours labor @ $95 plus $190 for kit. In addition they refurbed the roller tension and a couple of other things that weren't up to there standards. ::)

They have a couple of 15 amp recpts  (maybe 20s)  on the outside of their building where we spent the night. We were on the road by noon.

Love it. :D

Also glad to know the factory is doing on-site work again.  Thought I read a post awhile back saying they stopped that.

Thanks for the info, sounds like a great upgrade.  The other night I had to get up on a ladder to get one of the hooks undone so I could put in the awning before going to bed.  Beside being annoying, after a few cocktails, I don't need to be on a ladder.  ;D

Zip dee used to make a tool to grip the release knob long ago.  Wonder if any are around?

We had the NX conversion done while we were at Xtreme.  Wonderful upgrade, and makes it much easier to put the awning out and in.
We added the pusher handles (which for some reason weren't ever on there), and now no desire for an automatic (OK, actually Nancy occasionally wants one, but ours never sticks out or in and we can take a surprising side wind before getting nervous, so we're staying with manual.)

We had the NX upgrade several years ago.  It really helps with the  usability of the big awning.

See I'm not crazy.  Lots of old info and parts around.

I am 6'2" and the awning on my 97 is my max.  But not past it.  No problem.
