Title: What is this? (Water Stain)
Post by: Lance Camper on May 30, 2014, 10:14:20 am
Good morning

To me this looks like water stains. Would anyone know where a stain like this could originate?  They were on both sides of the bed under the windows. The stains were much longer than the windows, almost the entire wall from the end tables to the foot of the bed.

Thanks
Ed

First of all do they wipe off? as pictures do not really show if surface or not. If stain is coming from backside of panel it could be eithermoisture trapped in wall or glue on cross framing bleeding thru.
Try and wash it off and report back

Man I hope that is not a tide line where water has pooled in the coach, would be disastrous if that is what it is. I would pull the drawers out of the cabinets beside the bed and look for water marks, mold etc.  Also open the bed and see if there is mud, sand and debris on the engine mounts and ledges under the bed.
Is the stain continuous down the walls in the rest of the coach ?

Thanks John, but not my rig.

It is for sale. The owner said "I don't know" when I asked. I'm hoping some of you can give me something a little better than his "I don't know"

Gary, That's what I thought when I first saw it.

We told the owner we would get back to him

Thanks
Ed

Not having any experience with "tide lines" I am sure it would show on all walls as well. Gary's idea is a good one to check inside cabinets, but surely there would be visible evidence on all outside of cabinets etc if it was this problem??
If you cannot find problem and there is more tell tale things-walk as Dan said. Which coach is this in, is it on C List or?

Take a hose and liberally dose the windows.  If that is the source of the leak, easy to seal-- remove window, install new tape around window and install.

To fix the damage, may have to remove the inside panels to expose the damage and fix. I have no idea if replacement panels to match are available or if you can paint those sections as John did on their U240.  For me, it would have to be exposed, as keeping the steel beams wet would not be a viable option.

In my past life making surveys of autos , commercial vehicles, etc to determine value we always looked under seats , at the back of radios, ash trays, inside glove compartments, in pooling areas on engines and transmissions, and other places that a detailer would be likely to skip.  I have seen vehicles that looked showroom fresh til you took the battery out and found sand and mud under the battery.  Detailers are experts at making things look good but they are human too and on occasions get lazy.
If it looks to good to be true it probably isn't

Is it only beside the bed? Looks like rub stains to me.

I, being untrained, just dont know. I "thought" there might be a frame right along the where the brown line starts. Water dripped down to that frame and then was drawn to the wall material. All of this is speculation. I am hoping someone has more knowledge than I.

What do you mean by rub stains?

Cheers

"What do you mean by rub stains?" Something has rubbed against the wall, possibly a pet, but more likely something with a straight line, like a suitcase or similar. Your idea makes some sense, although it looks like the stain is more widespread that what drips would cause. I would think that if there was that much water behind the wall that the top line wouldn't be as sharp as it is.

It sounds like the current owner doesn't know the coach very well (broker? selling for an estate?). Is there a Motorcade number on the front and rear? If so, maybe someone here can track down a previous owner.

I am thinking a bad batch of adhesive when the vinyl wallpaper was attached OR something hinky on the board underneath that started becoming discolored if the coach sat for a long time closed up at high temps.  I think the only way to tell is to start ripping it off.  Ugh.

Make a mild solution of oxyclean and water, use a clean white cloth, try it in a small area, it has worked wonders around the MH.

Is there any deformation/swelling of the luan backing in the area of the stain-- that would indicate water intrusion?

Here is another pic. If you enlarge it and look very close I believe you can see a horizontal seam running just at the brown line.  I can't see delamination or swelling.

He owned it for two years. First owner was from Michigan. I have motorcade number. I just don't want to erroneously bad mouth a coach without knowing for sure what the stains are.  Is it ok to post the motorcade number?

Cheers

"Is it ok to post the motorcade number?" Yes, that will be a big help.

Not listed in the owners section. Probably issued in 99 or 2000.

This mark is facinating in as much as it looks like a surface one due to the vertical streaks running down thru' the main horizontal one and I do see the material finish cut line as mentioned, but, it does not seem to follow the actual stain. I gather the first 2 pictures on original post are diferent walls? Did you try to wipe that mark off at all (realise it is not your coach). I would say it is NOT related to water as there would be some affect to the Luan outside skin and so far that does not look affected.
I think pictures of the whole walls are needed and other parts of coach as well because if it was a moisture problem as Gary had suggested then it would be showing up on other ones too. Hmmm interesting my Dear Watson!!

Motorcade #s have been re issued years later after they had been cancelled from previous owner. When we got ours someone at camp FT told me that my # was earlier than hers and she had been a member for a year before me. ?? mine 16942 from Jan 2010
