Title: Crack in Windshield
Post by: sawdust316 on June 01, 2014, 10:02:13 pm
Good Evening Folks;

While traveling from San Antiono to Amarillo we unknowingly had a small stone hit the windshield at the rubber gasket just in front of the driver lower side. Did not see the crack until it reached eye level.

OK, we are covered.

My question is; Where might I take the coach to have the repair done, short of returning to NAC. We are currently in Gunnison, CO.

BTW, Rte 50 getting here was not a fun drive, bit the retarder worked well.

Thanks for you help.

Norm

           Hey Norm, I assume the crack is longer than a dollar bill. If not than you may be able to have a mobile crack repair done. Maybe contact FOT or MOT and see if they could ship the glass to a shop down the road on your trip?

            Hope you guys are enjoying your getaway. We are leaving for the North Atlantic Spring Rally tomorrow.

Norm,
I have the window(s) replace by RV or Auto  glass companies. They just have to get the right window. Make sure it has the same name on it. Once I had someone replace one with a glass that they said was the same 2 weeks later it cracked and they had to replace it. This time with the identical (original) glass. I think the correct glass is available, they just have to find it.

Had our driver's windshield replaced about a year ago in Houston by a local aut glass company.  Came to our spot and did the change.  Took about 20 mins total.  I would think that you can do the same thing where you are.  You could call your insurance company - they might direct you to someone.  JAT

Last summer we had a crack in the passenger side windshield that required replacement. I called our insurance company, who set us up with Duncan systems. I know some others have complained about them, but our experience was good. They gave us a choice of several local installers, and we picked a convenient one. The glass took a couple of days to arrive, and the installation took a couple of hours. I was pleased with the process and the results.

Brian,

The manufacturer's name and part number should be in one corner of your windshield.  Mine were made by Guardian.

Brian that would be known in US as driver side of course and guardian made the ones on 240. I had one shipped from FT a week ago and the installer broke it when fitting !!! What a headache. trying to see what happens now as coach is with new owners.

Hi Folks;

Our new windshield is supposed to be here (Colo. Springs) on Monday. Being shipped here by Dunkin in Ind. The installer wants to inspect it prior to excepting delivery. If all is ok he will do the installation on Tues. Then on to Mt Rushmore.

Been here for almost 2 weeks. We are in the area known as Black Forest, where that real bad fire was last year, almost 500 homes lost. Been thru areas where only chimneys remain. Some people rebuilding some have just left. Sad.

Brian, probably makes the cost of the windshield seem insignificant. Once had to ship a piece of equipment from Japan to St. Louis. It had been forgotten, needed to have for the plant to start up. The shipping was to the tune of $35K.  Toyota had forgotten to order the part. They weren't happy with the bill, but they paid.
