Title: slide problems on a 2003
Post by: Tom Lang on June 03, 2014, 10:34:58 pm
This is not my week. Now the single slide is having problems.

Even with a fully charged battery, engine running, and full air pressure, the slide only moves in fits and starts. Doesn't start to move as soon as it used to, stops and starts. It quits part way, then I need to stop and turn the key off, then on, then try again to get a little more movement.

What is going on? Hydraulic pump issues? What can I do, 400 miles away from home with the slide out?

Could be there is a bad air leak and not keeping the air bladder vacuumed down. If it does not see vacuum it will not let the slide room move. If you can call HWH and talk to Randy, he can talk you through getting the slide room in. When you call in and talk to the person who answers the phone that you have the room stuck out and are 400 miles away from home and really need some help.

What Red Tractor said.  Call HWH - Randy is great.  Tell the gal that you are stranded.  You could also call FOT and they can tell you how to retract your slide.

This link may apply:  HWH Emergency Retract Room Procedures (http://www.beamalarm.com/Documents/hwh/hwh_emergency_retract_room_procedure.html)

Good luck.

Sounds like the most likely culprit is a leaky bladder. Is there any place in California to have this replaced, or is a trip to NAC required?

Might not be the bladder, could be the shut off valves to the vacuum manifold, or the valve that releases when the compressor shuts off ar a fitting on one of the air lines around the compressor. I found to major leaks in lines by the compressor and the shut off valves, and now found the bladder for the bedroom slide has a leak now, so have to change that next.

Hope it isn't that.  RNR in Spokane, WA is closer and they can replace the bladder.  They did one while I was there last year.

Tom, sorry to hear your problem. We had a hydraulic pump failure. In our case the motor that operates the pump just quit. So the slide would not move at all. Can you verify that the pump motor actually stops when the room movement stops? And does the red light on the control panel go out when the room stops?
Do the control panel lights operate normally; amber light flashes and then stays on solid, red light comes on and stays on as long as retract or extend switch is held down, etc.
The hydraulic fluid level should be checked with the room fully retracted, but if it is stalled halfway you should be able to confirm the level is not way low. Dexron II is compatable.
The Pump motor can be run manually, see attached instruction. I have never tried this, so can't make any recommendation. Suggest caution.
Call to HWH is probably the best bet.
Like to hear back how it goes.

We have had leaks in and replaced both slide bladders. Neither ever kept us from moving the slides in or out.
Temecula Valley RV in Muretta, CA told us that they had experience installing these slide bladders. We didn't use them because they would not deal with our extended warranty company. We drove to FOT.
Oregon Motor Coach replaced our second bladder.

For what it's worth, right after I had the slide-top squeegee replaced, I started hearing rubber rubbing sounds when moving the slide. I thought it was just the squeegee. Might have been the bladder. That was just a couple of months ago.
