Title: Bugs on the Front
Post by: John S on June 06, 2014, 04:02:07 pm
Well, I know we all have our ways but today I tried something different.  I put wax on before I left and use the wash and wax a few times during the trip but we had a few huge rainstorms that I drove thru that scrubbed the bugs off.  The last day though we hit swarms and the front was covered. So this morning I got a pail of hot water and a long handled brush and they just melted off. I finished up with a absorbent towel to get the dead pieces off that did not come off and it was done in one pail. They had a no wash policy but one bucket of water was fine.  It worked well.  I have used the two bucket method before but this was just as good.

John::  I always put on a wax product on the front before each trip.  Especially at the top which is the hardest area to wash on the road. Like you it has certainly make cleaning easier. I am not real careful about wiping it all off.  I also put rainX on the windshield.  This really helps if you get into a lovebug area.    DAN

Hard to believe, but put on a polymer finish just like wax and the bugs will just wipe off with a wet MICROFIBER towel. Those are the only thing that touch my motorhome now. I love 'em.

You guys are going in all the wrong places . I never get a  bug on my windshield . I have found a way to hold my mouth just right and the bugs part a clear path for me .I see them line up on the side of the road waiting for the next Foretravel as I pass by .  Kind of like in the Bible , and you think I'm on dope . And now , the rest of the story --- I will cover all bets that I kill the most bugs per mile than anyone else .! On a good day I get about a pound and a half . Ok now , who can top that ??? Thought so .  Brad Metzger ???

Mine was a bit worse I hit a swarm of some hard bug. Looked like bees. You could not make out the front graphics.

Numbers vs size.

Mayflies swarm and die in such huge quantities in the spring that two years ago they had to get out the snow plows to clean off the bridge over the Mississippi at Hastings.  More slippery than ice.

Somehow some of the bugs up here in the upper midwest got cross bred with small birds.  The big green and yellow splats can be an inch or two across.  You can see then coming at you and then WHAM!  More often than not just about where you normally look out at the road.

Big flat bug catchers, we are.

Roger, you are right. It seems as bad as when the Locust came to VA.

I just saw somewhere a reccomendation to put a thin coating of dishwash soap on the front.  Bugs just hose off.  Now when it rains...Foamin' Foretravel!
