Title: Garmin RV 760LMT with Wireless Backup Camera
Post by: Jon H on June 11, 2014, 07:06:38 pm
Would appreciate comments from anyone using this GPS in conjunction with the wireless backup camera. I'm getting ready to upgrade my old Javelina / Audit system and need to update my GPS too !

Appreciate all comments - as usual !

Jon :D

Jon,

Thanks for asking this question - we need to do exactly the same upgrade.  Hope you get some good answers!

Bump up.  So NOT ONE forum member is using the system in question?  I guess that IS a kinda "negative" recommendation...

I looked on Garmin's website and read this following (bolding is mine)

Take the worry out of reversing with the BC 20 wireless backup camera. It works alongside your RV 760LMT, nüvi® 2798LMT or dēzl 760LMT¹ to seamlessly display footage right on your navigator. Easily spot vehicles, pedestrians and other obstructions right on your screen as you reverse. The transmitter will send camera footage to your navigator's receiver mount up to 45 ft (13.7 m) away. Range varies based on installation. Some vehicles may require an extension cable (sold separately).

JMHO, but 45 foot max range might be iffy in a 40 footer.  They do offer a 50' cable to direct-connect (wouldn't be wireless operation) but that could be a challenging cable to run.

If a new backup camera were needed, I'd be more inclined to talk to the RV Cams guy since that's what they specialize in (not to knock Garmin, but cameras aren't their core business).

Michelle,

Thanks, I have already gotten a quote from RV Cams.  I was just hoping for some glowing reviews of the Garmin wireless system, since (like Jon) I am presently in the market for a GPS receiver + my rear view camera is kaput.  Always nice when you can address 2 "deficiencies" with one purchase!  Probably not this time, however...

I have the Garmin RV760LMT and am pleased with it.

I need a replacement system for the backup camera. I would prefer to pay the extra bucks to have separate systems and a wired camera. The wire is in place. It just needs better devices at each end.

I'm planning an update of the monitor but will use the one from rvcams since I know it works in that application. I already have plenty of gps devices between the tablets and smartphones plus the dash-mounted co-pilot.

Ditto on the Garmin and I  did spend the extra bucks and have a wired camera.

I just installed the BC20 and I am not impressed with the video.  It is not very clear.  I don't know if it needs to be mounted on the outside of the FT camera plate to allow a better focus.  I mounted it on the inside of the plate like the original Audit camera was located.
