Title: How To Drain Fresh Water Tank ?????
Post by: jayncat on June 11, 2014, 09:42:04 pm
Have read LOTS of posts on HOW to correctly sanitize fresh water tank .....
In all these posts, I have NOT seen .... HOW or WHERE to drain 120 gallons of water.
We have a 97 U295 40ft, parked in a storage area with no access to water. I've looked under coach, and have not seen WHERE the water will drain. Even if parked at a campsite that has water, HOW do you drain a full tank without 120 gallons of water going directly on the ground????

Thanks for your help ....

Should be a hot and cold valve by the edge of one of your bays.

If yours is anything like mine, there will be a set of marked valves in the same bay as your water pump.  Cold drain, hot drain, tank drain.  They all head to about 1/2" tubes that stick thru the floor on mine.

I drain on the ground, but I suppose you could rig up a simple male-male barb connector and run it into the sewage hole at the campground.  Not sure why it would be an issue to dump on the ground.  I've even been in a campsite in OH that wanted me to drain my gray onto the ground.  (Never went back to that mess).

My cleanup water faucet in the wet bay has a male hose thread connection.  I can screw a hose on the nozzle, turn on the water pump, and run the "stale" water from the tank out the hose to where ever I want it.  I water the grass with it.  Lots quicker than draining through the 1/2" valve.

120 gallons is a LOT of water to dump in one spot. Maybe open the drain valve a bit and take a drive on a rainy day. <grin>

Seriously, our tank is about 100 gallons, and when we sanitized using the stuff Foretravel recommended we had to fill and drain it a couple of times. We have a slope to the driveway that still was close enough to the well house to stretch the hose. When we drained the water ran down along the drive (rock) and into the ground. We did this during a dry spell, and no water actually got down to the road.

My '96 is the same. Valves in the water pump compartment.
I got a 3/4" NPT to 3/4" garden hose fitting at Lowes, drilled a hole in a small plastic bucket (actually a cut up empty cat litter container) that would fit under the drain hoses, and screwed the fitting into it. I thought I might need to screw a nut inside the container but the fitting was tight enough without one. I then ran the garden hose out to a open place. The container provided enough buffer space that I didn't have an overflow problem.

Aside
I carried that silly container for a long time before I realized that I could always cut another hole in another cat litter jug and I coveted the space. :P
