Title: Unicoach Door Width
Post by: TulsaTrent on June 15, 2014, 12:55:55 pm
Howdy!

Does anyone *know* when the Unicoach door width went from 24" to 26/27"?

I have heard 1997 and 1999, but do not know. If you do not know, I would appreciate sharing your expertise, possibly letting us know the width of your door in the late 1990's.

Just trying to narrow *my* selection criteria for the "best" Foretravel years from the 1997-2001 timeframe. Any other observations to aid my search would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Trent

Ours was built in August 1998 as a 1999 model. It has the 27 inch door which nets you about 24 inches of opening unless you take the screen door out. With the screen door removed, you get about 25.5" or so depending on where you measure it. Our new refrigerator is about 25 inches wide and 25 inches deep when you consider the refrigerant tube that runs up the back to the coldplate. I had to take the screen door off to get the refrigerator inside. Other than the fact that about half of the screws required A screw extractor to get out, it is quite easy to remove the screen door.

27 inch inside dimension?
If so, that is the first one I've ever heard of prior to the 1999 model year.  All 1999's and later have the wider doors.

And with my screen door removed, I have 24" I.D. (opening) exactly, anywhere from the bottom sill to the top.  I had to remove the screen door and the copilot's chair wooden grab handle to get my 23.5" wide old NORCOLD out and 23.5" new ATWOOD refrigerator into the coach.

Just remeasured my 97, removing screen door gives you 26.5 inches from left frame to right frame, there is a lip on the
inside of the frame which brings the actual working opening to about 25 inches.

I know of a '95 U320 that had the door upgraded to the wider door. I don't know who did the work but I imagine it was Foretravel.

Our 1995 U320 has the "narrow" door and so far it hasn't presented any issue. We don't have the screen door, but we haven't really needed it, and I actually prefer the appearance of the interior without a screen door covering the outside door.
