If you have been following my posts, you know our refrigerator flamed out, and we are currently deciding whether to have the old Dometic repaired, or replace it with a non-flammable refrigerator. Since we don't want to lose the under refrigerator storage cabinets, we are trying to give all the options a look-see.
One problem is visualizing how the various refrigerators would look. Do we want a black, white, or stainless apartment model around 10 cubic feet, or the same with a wood overlay? Do we want a marine model which accepts a wood panel in the doors? Either of these options would require some cabinetry rework, as the old Dometic is a monster, 36" wide by 60" tall. But cabinetry rework is not all bad (only cost is bad), we like the idea of adding a pullout pantry. The final option is to let Sea Freeze make a custom marine refrigerator (probably DC only, no need for an always-on inverter) the same size as the domestic, no cabinetry costs, just a more expensive refrigerator.
Photos would sure help.
Thanks, Tom
One more thing. I was reading the Summit refrigerator user/installation manual, and two things caught my eye.
One is that it is not to be run off-level. How off level they do not say.
The other is that it is not to me installed in an enclosed space.
Seems to me, all the residential refrigerators are being run off level and installed in enclosed spaces.
???
Enclosed is considered built in with no airflow. Installed in RV, there is plenty of airflow. Not sure re level, I just run it.
Costly storage under your refer if you forego residential and lose space vs. custom marine unit.
As for color, I show my wife the options and she picks. She went with stainless and we went that way with new advantium microwave as well
John Haygarth's fridge and pantry upgrade (What did you do to your coach today) (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=15228.msg91908#msg91908)
This was what I did for the swap over to residential. Made sense to me with the room left. Little bit of cabinet work and a matching front panel made by local shop for me.

Looks great. If only I can convince DW that black is the new walnut.
What model refrigerator is that?
Thanks, Tom

This info is on the other posting you have written on. I believe according to the posts it is not available any more

We installed a KitchenAid KBFS20EVMS
Counter depth,I had to remove the cabinet below the existing refrigerator and build a short riser on the floor to clear the plumbing and level sensor.I did keep it as low as possible to be sure the top of the refrigerator door would clear the header for the door into the bath. We did need to remove a window to get the new refrigerator in and the old out. It was not really to difficult.
Great job ;D
I believe I posted this somewhere here before, but here it is again in case you haven't seen it already. We like the 10cf fridge, but we are in the coach for short periods of time - 1 week max. We were happy with the installation (done by Rudy Leggett's contact in Baytown), and I'd like to have the sliding pantry installed to the left of the fridge someday soon.
Our experience so far: It cools down in almost no time (maybe 30 minutes?), and if I'm not running the generator while under way the fridge will stay cold for many hours if it is not opened frequently. We are usually running the generator since we live in the warm part of the country, so putting extra batteries or invertors has not been necessary for us.
Count us (especially Amanda) VERY happy with the 10 cf Haier residential model, and consider it an upgrade from the original equipment.
Tom, how many cubic feet is that unit? It looks big.
Larry
Larry it's just under 20cf
We still only have the original three batteries, and i had planned to add more but have not found the need, so far it serves us well.
Thanks Tom. The one disadvantage I see to that large of a fridg is that the kids might try to move in to :)) :))
