Title: 2003 38' U320 In Our Future
Post by: Gary & Jeannie on June 16, 2014, 04:40:39 pm
We have taken the first step and put a deposit on the 2003 38' Foretravel that is at FOT.  Our RVing has been in Airstream Trailers with no regrets.  However, we are very excited and looking forward to our future travels in the comfort and safety of a Foretravel.

Will be traveling to Texas for on site inspection and hope to obtain the services of Brett Wolfe to inspect the coach.

Would appreciate any information/history on the 38 coach just listed on the FOT site.

We are looking forward being a Foretravel member and getting to know all of you!

Whoohooo!!
Gary and Jeannie

Looks nice in the pics.

That said, that is the lowest price I've ever seen for an '03 U320, by a lot. Buyer beware.

Congratulations!!  Beautiful coach!  Hope all goes well with your purchase. Donna and I have an 03, 38ft with tag that we love.  Handles beautifully and makes a nice home...couldn't ask for more.

We also love ours, also a 2003 38' model, but perhaps more rare U295 single slide, no tag.

Welcome, and enjoy.

We also own a 2003 38 with the tag.  We heard that eight of these coaches were built that year.  We have met several owners of these wonderful coaches, during our travels,  and all have been very happy with their purchase.

I was told various financial issues were affecting build qualities around that time period

Not for the 2003's from what we've seen (we've looked over a lot of 2003's).  And we've had our coach just over 10 years so build quality issues would have shown up by now.  I think the only known issue for that year was the end cap cracking, virtually all of which FT has taken care of.

The one on FOT's list looks like a nice coach.  Guessing from the MC number in the low 15000's that it wasn't their first Foretravel and with the "A" at the end of the stock number 6510 looks like it was traded in on a 2009 Nimbus consignment (coach 6510).

Appreciate any and all the comments...they will be very helpful next week during site inspection.  Never having owned a coach the extent of my inspection will be limited to cosmetics, checking for fluid leaks and turning things on and off.  The big $$$ items such as air systems, Diesel engine, generator and drive train was not part of our trailer life.

Brett is traveling, however, he recommended another person that hopefully will be available to inspect the coach next week.

Thanks again for all the input...

Highly recommend to have someone knowledgable with our coaches help you out on the inspection.

Gary & Jeannie,  as you can see, I have a coach almost identical to the one you are looking at. I have owned it for 8 years and about 80000 miles. It is my 4th Foretravel. I have had some serious roof crack problems which have now been resolved thru service at FOT. No interior damages have been discovered from these.
Otherwise no problems except the usual trials and tribulations of humans operating a complex system of mechanics.
I think this is one of the best designed coaches that Foretavel has produced. It is basically a 36 foot coch extended to accept the two slides and their extra weight, thus requiring the tag axle.
With Michelin tires properly inflated, it drives and rides like a dream, everywhere except on I 81 thru Pa.
If your PDI is satisfactory, I recommend this coach.

Do you know how the roof became cracked?  What was the resolution and did FOT cover it?

My coach sits out in the sun, this along with some really rough trips up thru PA and maybe some improperly seated screws in the roof fixtures. I don't know for sure just what the causes were. Yes, Foretravel did help significantly with the repairs, they were done when the coach was ten years old and long out of warranty. They repaired the cracks and resurfaced the roof and installed a non-skid surface. They reinspected it just this past spring and pronounced everything in satisfactory condition.

Leaving, on a jet plane, don't know...

Need to know of someone who should inspect our possible 38 since Brett is going/gone to the Pacific coast! He recommended someone to us but we've not been able to get in touch with him. Anybody have a recommendation? So grateful for all of the input and know the inspection is key to moving forward.  Will be at FOT on Monday for a couple of days.

Congratulations on your choice.  I hope it works out for you. As you can tell we are partial to that coach and floorplan also.  Drop an PM if you have any particular questions.  David
