Title: fuel milage
Post by: Dan Stansel on July 07, 2014, 11:16:51 am
I have gotten poor fuel milage after change from the HHR to the Terrain as a tow car.  This last trip was close to 7.  Ozark mountains, 60 miles of bumper to bumper on I-30, running generator may have something to do with it.  Still do not have my silverleaf working.  DAN

Hi Dan
That's about right! We tow a Susxl7 and when climbing mountainous terrain we get also about 7mpg going between 60-65mph

Dan, were you able to get the VMSpc drivers installed?

I just got 7.8 on the way to Nac but was running about 8 on the flats. If i get in traffic all bets are off.  I had traffic and mountains on my trip out west for almost 6000 miles, silver leaf gave me 7.2 but i was climbing upwards for a long time and to 9K 10K feet.
If you are in the 7s with a tow car and generator you are right on target. The generator was on from the min I pulled out of the garage the other day till I pulled into Nac and plugged in.

Nothing wrong with 7 mpg in mountains, bumper to bumper traffic and generator use. Fuel mileage is dependent on a lot of things. Bumper to bumper is tough plus low speeds mean no torque converter lockup and that uses more fuel.

Last 3,500 mile trip averaged 7.7 with a 3,500 pound tow.

Flat Midwest segment with nice highway and no wind was 10.  Once.

We typically average around 8 MPG, but the mileage you cited seems to me to be quite reasonable for the conditions you experienced.

VMSpc says:  8.0 for 90600 miles, 7.4 for the last 6200 miles.  Much of this travel was from AZ through Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Oregon.  Was starting to get concerned since on the flat we usually get:  8.1/8.4 on average and we have been seeing lower numbers for the last few of months.  Lots of hills and wind.  Guess what we are seeing is normal.  ;D
