Title: Generator Overheat
Post by: sedelange on July 18, 2014, 08:34:16 pm
My 10kw Powertech overheated today.  I tried  adding coolant, but found it leaking out of the 3" long hose on the back of the generator.  Further examination revealed the top support bracket of the tank and shroud assembly had broken and allowed the shroud to settle on the hose and wearing small gash in the hose.  Its my fault for not examining the generator assembly closer at the last oil change.  Biggest problem is the hose is 1-1/4" ID on one end and 1-1/8" on the other.  Luckily I found one I could use at O'reilly Auto.

Take a quick check where your tank support it welded to the shroud.  Mine broke right at the weld.

Mine broke like that awhile back. Took it all out and welded everything Back together. That little hose is in a tight place

Steve's tank mounting is a common point that breaks over time. Probably from too much vibration.
