Title: another event in the life of Brians Coach,
Post by: MR B2 on July 29, 2014, 11:13:37 am

After a lot of Google searching for windscreen prices for my coach in the USA, I finally ordered them from Foretravel,

Why, as the windscreens were $954-00 each from Foretravel, and they put them in one small box,

Where as I could get them for $370-00 each from Guardian in Ohio, They were going to pack them in a huge box,

That huge box was going to cost over four grand to get it here by air freight, That was the cheapest air quote I could

find, plus the cost of the screens on top of it,

So sometimes paying more for some thing is actually cheaper in the long run, It would have cost me something like

$7000-00 USD by the time it got here,

So I paid approx $4500-00 to get my new windscreens with all new rubbers air freighted to me, My Visa is having a Coronary at the moment,

But I am glad they have finally arrived, another stress out of the way,  I will open the box up tomorrow and have a Bopeep at them to make sure they are not damaged, which I doubt they will be,

Still have to figure out why the front is like it is, squeezed together at the centre, I am sure its missing a prop or brace in there some where,

Hi Brian,
If the windshield center looks "squeezed" you might check for front cap separation from the plywood that supports it and helps it keep it's shape.  This usually happens as a result of water entry from the windscreen.  It turns out that the bonding agent they used didn't really like exposure to water.  I just had a similar problem with my 96 U320 and came up with an easy, inexpensive fix if you need it.  I also have a 1990 U280 that I had FOT install a windscreen in last week.

I would certainly like to hear about your quick fix.
It appears to me that it needs pushing out at the base of the screen, But not sure how to go about it,

Nothing in there is actually rotted, Every thing seems solid, I dont even have another one to look at, Which makes it hard,
There is nothing really in there to jack it out from, or stiffen it up from to hold it forward,

I am glad you all like my posts on my Coach, It may help some one else,

I get lots of very good info from ready the posts on here, I can fix things without even asking,

My 95 280 has plenty of movement predominantly on the drivers side windshield. This coach had major repair done to the front cap by FOT 7 plus years ago and I have been told to avoid any serious twists and to always make sure it is level when parked.
Don't like looking down the side and seeing the decals lift up half an inch at the front cap then angle down as they go forward? assume this is how they re-secured the cap at the factory. Having to fight the urge to pick every little part of the coach apart on our limited income. Might look into new seals for the drivers side and reset when we tint the windows.
Good luck with your new windscreen install!

I don't think my quick fix will help you.  I had the opposite problem, the front cap had pulled away from the plywood and needed to be pulled back about an inch in the center.
Talking to the folks at Foretravel, they address the front cap issues by pulling the windshields and using bar clamps to re-glue the cap to the plywood assuring the proper shape.  I used 3M 5200 fast cure polyurethane as an adhesive on my 320.  It's permanent, takes 24 hours to cure and is waterproof, unlike the original adhesive.

I'll take a look at my 1990 U280 and see how it is done-- I don't have windshield movement issues with it.  If I can, I'll send some pictures.

Each Foretravel model made has progressively less twist to them.

They are also bigger and heavier.

My u320 unicoach has almost none at ride height.  Unihomes had more and the chassis coaches had more yet,

Old ftx's on dodge chassis had very little btw.
