Title: Aquahot operation in a 2007 Nimbus (split from question Re: Silly question, perhaps)
Post by: Don Rickey on August 04, 2014, 10:40:47 am
I've been told (by a person very familiar with Aqua-Hot) that the primary reason for Aqua-Hot problems is too little use. If it's not used regularly then the nozzle can begin to become obstructed. If it's used (in diesel mode) for a minimum of perhaps 10 minutes a month, then the nozzle will stay clear and will likely be trouble-free.

I saw this and hope someone can clarify something for me about the AH.

I love this system, but must admit this is our first motorhome so I can't compare to the propane alternative. My question concerns activating the diesel engine.

I have set the diesel switch to on in the panel and noted the light illumination. When I check back later, the switch has not changed but the light is out. Does this mean the diesel is on standby? I'm not sure why you would not want the diesel permanently on standby, if possible. I know, in my ignorance, I took a shower one cool morning after heating up the coach (warm and toasty in just a few minutes) and ran out of hot water because I did not turn the diesel on.

Here are my other, related questions:

Don,

To clarify, do you have an AquaHot or an Oasis or a HydroHot in your coach?  I seem to recall the 2007 Nimbus as having other than an AquaHot for its hydronic heating.  If so, the switch behavior may or may not be different than the 2005 and prior AquaHot-equipped coaches.

My light stays on unless there is a problem, then it turns off.

Michelle,

Good catch. I just went out in the bay and checked. I stand corrected. It is a Hydro Hot, not Aqua Hot.

Don,

The HH is the smaller less expensive version of the AH.  Diesel burner operation for both the small and large AH is the same.  If your diesel burner interior switch light is off with the switch in the on position, the burner has failed to light and faulted.  There is a correctable reason(s) it has faulted.

If you are handy with your tools and have a VOM meter, PM me your phone number and we can probably sort it out.  Roger Berke will send you any failed part and you will be turning and burning again.

Don,

Double check, as my '07 uses the Oasis system. I think Foretravel was using Oasis for most of there build in the '07 time frame.
