Title: Dometic Model RM3663
Post by: spoiled122843 on August 09, 2014, 03:27:49 pm
The fridge in my 93 GV has gotten to the point where the freezer works and the lower part doesn't.  Check light comes on fairly often and the unit seems to want to run on gas even when AC is available.  Thought I would be able to find a regular, non-three way, unit at Lowes, but nothing so far is close to the 24x54 size mine is.  I generally use the RV as a place at the lake and the fast cool down of a regular refrigerator would be a plus.  Am I just going to have to go smaller or larger and be forced to do cabinet work?

Either that or look into a marine refrigerator.

Look into a rebuilt cooling unit for your fridge.  Most large camper catalogs have them and it should make your old fridge run like new

Yes.

Many ideas on the Forum on how to do either.  New Residential Refrigerator (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=21920.0)

Haier apartment refrigerator.

I think this might fit my U225

23-7/16 wide
22-1/4 deep to the door plus 3/4" for cooling coils
58-1/4 high
10.3 cf
$448 at Lowe's

On Edit:
Propman took his fridge out of his U225 and measured... he said that his fridge measured 55" high but that he could go up to just over 58" without getting into the lower cabinet. That's what I hope will work.

The Amish cooling units get great reviews.

Bill,

It is not a low budget residential refrigerator, but dimension and function wise, the Atwood Helium Absorption Refrigerator HE0601, is a direct "plug-in" replacement for the Dometic 3663;
The HE0601 is        (52 7/8"H X 23 1/2"W X 24"D)
The Dometic 3663 is (53 3/4"H X 23 11/16"W X 24"D).

We find that our HE0801 cools faster and works better in suiting our needs, than any of the residential refrigerator options would.  It also looks original, was one of the lowest cost options, has the benefit of a longer warranty and is a totally new unit, instead of just a new cooling unit "refit" into an old box with 16 year old controls.

Haier doesn't have a very good reputation.  There are pages and pages of people who are very unhappy and the company appears to not care.  Probably going to try the Avanti RA7316PST.  Width is a little smaller and may have to bump up the opening a little.

Propman and I were going to go with Avanti but he ordered - and sent back - 4 of them before he gave up. First one wasn't black (he should have kept it and painted it); next two were banged up; last one did not work. There is a thread "Samsung for my U225" that I started because I would have preferred to go with a Samsung but could not find anything that would fit.

I am trying to keep the vacuum cabinet which is below the fridge on my U225. I have about 58" to play with in height before I have to modify that cabinet. It holds my inverter and some gear for the solar panels; plus the solar panel charge controller is mounted right where the old vacuum hose connection used to be.

The Avanti would be a perfect fit but apparently it is very difficult to get the right one and have it in working order.

I have the same problem on space. but I only have about 54" in height.  I would like to purchase it locally, but haven't found one yet.
