Title: baggage door struts for my U225
Post by: poolenglish on August 10, 2014, 03:46:03 pm
I have searched and cannot find the struts that I need for ALL of my baggage (basement) doors. They are the type with a flat "spade" on each end with a hole. They are not the common type of ball and socket struts. 20" long when extended all the way. Does someone here know where I can get replacements? Maybe a link?  I need ALL new struts on compartments and that is quite a few $ ! Thanks, I hope someone here knows.

My '93 U225 has the ball-and-socket struts. Have you tried asking Foretravel in Nacodoches, TX? Do you think you could convert them?

Prop strut replacements for baggage doors on U240 (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=21880.msg164218#msg164218)

Hope this helps you determine and find your strut. ^.^d

I have searched the forum and the post you refer to and have no link, all of the links are for ball and socket type struts. That type is not adaptable for the flat spade w/ a hole type. thanks

Set Gas Strut Cylinder Spring Lift Shock Metal Pin Hole Loop Blade End Fitting | (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-Gas-Strut-Cylinder-Spring-Lift-Shock-Metal-PIN-Hole-Loop-Blade-End-Fitting-/390893715608?pt=Motors_RV_Trailer_Camper_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5b0314c098&vxp=mtr)

How about this. Take the ball end off.

Can you post a photo of the end?

I just want a r&r, it is gonna cost a small fortune to replace the stupid things anyways... and new ends would be another c note minimum, so I am not even looking into that, a broom handle will be before that

I'm going to hope they are Attwood springlifts.  They do have a couple models with blade ends.

Marine & Boating Gas Springs : Attwood Marine Products (http://www.attwoodmarine.com/store/category/gas-springs)

For 20" extended with blades (12" compressed)  SL3-xx-1 where xx is the force, 20-120 lbs.

ETA SL3-60-5 appears to be the aftermarket version in 60 lbs and Googling that p/n brings up a number of marine sellers.  Aftermarket Gas Springs : Attwood Marine (http://www.attwoodmarine.com/store/product/hardware-aftermarket-gas-springs).  The above link is for OEM

I just replaced some gas struts on my roof top storage units and one set was the (class C ) with the spade end.  I got mine from NAPA.  They are basically automotive type but are used for a lot of industrial uses.  Take one down to NAPA and there is a good chance that they can match it.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz
