We have an appointment to have MCD shades installed in our coach at the MCD factory in McKinney, Texas. We can estimate the cost of the shades from the MCD website. But, we have no idea as to the cost to have the shades installed. Has anyone had the MCD shades installed at MCD and can give an estimate of the labor cost to have the shades installed. We are going to have an all coach installation, with the exception that we are not going to have the windshield shades installed. Thanks in advance for the assistance.
Take a look at this previous thread.
MCD shades and installation (MCD and McKinney) (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=8204.msg35973#msg35973)
I had a coach here that had the MCDs installed. The owners wanted their valances recovered so I had to take the shades off and take the valances to the upholsterer. After I received the valances back, I had to install the MCDs. I hope I never have to do that again. These were really tricky. I'd opt for the whole installation package- unless you have messed with these before.
Larry, just had ours done at MCD. Stayed for three days as they made the Gold dual series we ordered. All Windows and windshield but not the two end windows of main slide out and we also kept the pull down at the entrance
Material was $24160.1. Labor was $475.00 at $95/hour (4hr.)
Very satisfied!
Ed
Correction: Cost of material was $24160.19
Ed
$24,160.19 just for materials?! That's almost as much as we paid for our coach! What are those shades made of?
I had seriously considered a trip trip McKinney to investigate those shades. Just saved some big bucks. (are those numbers for real?)
David, that's only $3k a shade +-, not bad. :o :o

I suspect he is off by an order of magnitude. Mine were about $2300 and I did the install. Did not include the front window. I thought the install was pretty easy. I did have the valences out being recovered/rebuilt. I was able to make the horizontals about 2" less tall. It opens up some extra window glass area which is nice.

I had FOT put mine in with David Flannigan group do it. They had a special price on the shades as MCD was offering a 20 percent discount and I got my motorcade discount on top of it. It was cheaper then going up to MCD to do it. Also had the valances recovered as well at the same time.
Trust me ... once you buy the shades, the installation is best done by the guy who does it for a living. We bought our shades at MCD for our last coach and had then install it. Their labor time is very reasonable and the kid who did the install was as slick as a whistle. He has every drill bit or extension that he needs ... knows exactly what to do and completes the job in record time. We would have been working on it for 2 days ... took him about an hour to do all the windows. Having them install is cheap, in my opinion.
Hi all! Will need that cataract surgery sooner than later I guess. Material cost was $24160
Ed
Sorry for the typo. Ed is having problems with his eyes. This is the real cost of material-$2,160 only for everything. (Sue typing!)
MCD sides and front, double on all, MOT
We removed our side valances when we got MCD shades. It allowed the MCD to be wider as there is now more inside room in the top valance.
Without side valances, our coach looked better with cleaner walls as there was nothing breaking up the inside walls. And without the strings from the old shades, side valances are not needed to cover them.
Our wider MCD shades, both rolled toward the window, increased our privacy. With shades down and lights on, at night from the outside it looks like nobody is home.
Even if you keep side valances, consider having MCD make the shades so both roll toward the window, so you can use window sill with shades down. MCD has a pre-determined 'attitude' of what is best for us and tries to push rolling day toward window and night shade away from window, which covers window sill.
24 thousand!!!???
Tim
$2,160 only for all the material and $475 for labor at MCD factory.
We're considering MCD for the windshield area. it would be nice to read reports from those who have done that. Thanks!
Ed must be using the same brand of calculator they use at FOT and MOT.
David,
We installed MCD front shades in July. They are very nice. See the following thread for some details about the differences between the two types of shades and some installation ideas.
MCD Shades Gold Series (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=22432.msg170929#msg170929)
We did our own install and other than some contortionist like effort it was not hard. Helps to have the tools and some extra hands.
