While doing some work on my generator I noticed the corrugated air intake hose was split in several places. This hose goes from the electronic control box to air filter input. The air is first drawn through the electronic box and then to the intake side of the air filter. The air is drawn into the box from under the coach. Could someone please explain this as it seems as though a lot of dirt can be drawn into the electronic control box. Possibly it would be better to let the broken hose in place.
Thanks for your help
Jason
Would you be able to supply a picture for all of this since it sounds like you have a very different setup than I do with an 8KW Isuzu? I'm just curious to see this.
Robert:
Thank you for trying to understand and offer help. It sure seems like a complicated setup and is a little difficult to explain. So here we go!
Air comes in from the upper part of the cowling (Photo 1) which is located on the outer side of the generator box. From here if goes into the large rubber boot mounted on the generator on the left side (Photo 2). From here air is fed to the generator as well into the control box. It is fed into the control box by the channel coming off the top of the boot (Photo 3). The air then comes out of the back of the control, bottom left corner, into a black 1 ½ inch corrugated hose (Photo 4) and from here it is fed into the air filter intake (Photo 5).
I sure hope this is understandable.
So the question is "Doesn't this put a lot of unnecessary dirt into the electronics of the control box"
What type of setup is used on other coaches?
Thanks for any help
Jason
I'm not entirely sure what to tell you.
Your setup is completely different from the 8kw generators that I've seen. Including the control box which doesn't have any air tubing going into it on mine. I guess it is to cool it?
I had no idea thats what the 10kw setup looked like. Are you able to replace the corrugated tubing with sections of hard pipe? I would be worried that the tubing would close up and starve the engine for air.
I don't remember that type of set up on the air intake on our 10 kw power tec on our 98 coach, This seems to be rather strange.
Robert:
I thought about replacing the corrugated intake with something a little more solid but the intake would still pass through the control box which is my concern. As you stated it seems they did this for cooling which is why I hesitate to bypass the air passing through the control box.
