Title: Poor Man's Silverleaf - Phase II - PC Version
Post by: Jim McNeece on August 24, 2014, 01:24:12 pm
While the Android tablet version worked great, I wanted to display more stuff (the more you get, the more you want).

I could have bought a bigger tablet, but that cost more $, thus defeating the purpose of the "Poor Man's" part.

So, I wrote a PC version for my navigation computer - a PC running 32 bit Vista.  The PC version is Visual Basic as opposed to Java for the Android version.

Photo 1 is a screen shot (engine not running, just the ignition turned on).

There is a problem with fuel level data.  On the 2003 FT's, the fuel level sensor analog signal is fed into the magic "Blue Box" under the dash, which then converts the analog reading to J1587 output.  Retrieving this value in a consistent manner is difficult.  For whatever reason, requests for the fuel level are "hit-or-miss", so it may take several minutes to get a value.

Anyway, I can provide a copy to anyone who builds the interface as described in my previous post.  The app will not run on XP and requires .NET framework 4.0.  I've tested it on Vista and 7.

Jim,

That's awesome! I just got my parts a few days ago. Now I have to find some time to play with them. I may be sending a few questions your way. :)
