Title: oil pressure gauge doesnt work,is this the sending unit? pic
Post by: poolenglish on August 25, 2014, 12:22:12 pm
my oil pressure (U225 cummins 5.9) gauge does not work, when I turn the key on it goes all the way over to the highest position. any ineas what it might be...the gauge or the sensor and how do I check to see what is bad?
I attached a pic of a sender and I don't know what it is for (red connectors on it) if I disconnect the wires the oil gauge does the same thing when the key is turned on.thanks friends; Pat

Change the sending unit.. I've never had a oil gauge go bad in all our diesel rigs.... I have replaced more than a few sending units.

I agree with Dud replace sensor. I had several Fords that show low oil pressure and when hooked up to a mechanical gauge the oil pressure was fine.

poolenglish,

I agree with Dub and John.  I just replaced mine last week because I broke a wire connector on one of the terminals replacing the oil pressure switch which is right next to it.  The old one was working before I broke the wire and I had to replace it because I couldn't get to the terminal easily to fix it.  With no 12v power to the sending unit, the oil gauge will peg all the way to right with the ignition on.  Just make sure your getting 12v to the sending unit with your volt meter before replacing to make sure it's not a wiring problem.  Yours looks easy to get to.  Not so easy on the DD6v92!

Good Luck,

Jerry aka Murph

I guess that is a pic of my sender. I will check the voltage right now.

I got 12v when I disconnect wires and check voltage between them, it looks like I need the sender, I hope it is a common one to buy, like at NAPA. thx again
