Title: Location of light switch ???
Post by: Lance Camper on August 27, 2014, 09:54:42 pm
In our 2000 U295 there are rope accent lights under the kitchen and bathroom sinks. Does anyone know where the switch for them might be located?

Our first night in the coach they were on all night. We probably turned them on playing with every switch in the coach that evening. We simply could not find a switch to turn them off.  They were still on the next morning. Later I noticed they had gone off.  Timer maybe??? :help:

Help

Ed,
On our coach the switch is located on the switch panel just to your right side as you come in the front door. Between the grab handle and the A/C vent on the cover to your breaker panel.  Yours may be different but ours is labeled as "courtesy lights"

Hi Ed,
Our 1997 U 320 has a three bank switch at the entry door, on right, just below the grab handle. Just as Mike & Pam's coach.

A couple years ago, I found that switch, but never use it, so today can only say it is one of those positions above. :))

As you come in the door on mine it is the middle switch of the three, 1st one with green led is an over head light in the kitchen, second is night lights, 3rd is the porch light.

Thanks everyone. I have two switches near the sink. Water pump and water heater. That's where we expected the switch to be, but "no joy".

I will look closer at the three switches near the front door.

While we are on the front door switch for the overhead light.  Does that green light ever go off?  Mine remains on constantly.

Thanks
Ed

It goes out if you turn the master 12V switch off.  It's actually a helpful indicator of whether or not your 12V is on (especially if you can't figure out why nothing will work in the coach; many times it's because a person or a pet has bumped that master switch).

I did give that a thought Michelle, but didn't mention it in my last post. I have to consciously try to keep my posts short. I can really start to ramble if I type everything that comes to my alleged mind.  :giggle:  Thanks again.

I cannot help but notice that most of the replies are from owners of U320 coaches.  This is because these rope lights were standard on U320 models but not on U295s.  Mine is a U295, does not have rope lights under the counter edges, and the third switch at the doorway is wired to the halogen lamps over the dash area. My floor level night lights have only one switch, located next to the clock over my head when in bed.  Elsewhere would have been nice.

These rope lights might have been added later , forcing the installer to become inventive in finding a switch location.

Sorry if I misled you. I know I said "under the sinks" in my original post.  I meant (and I think others understood) the Floor Accent Lights which were standard. I called them rope lights because they are inside a clear plastic tube. They are under the cabinets at floor level.

Heading out to see if that switch works for me.

Regards
Ed

Those at floor level could be to right in entry area, or just under counter next to sink. Or email James T with build # and ask him

The under cabinet lights are in the top of the toe kick. That's where mine are installed.

Where is your switch is the question....

The on off switch is the center of a bank of three switches just below the pull handle/grab bar at the entrance. It is mounted in a panel that you can remove. The other switches control the outside light above the door, and the interior ceiling light at the kitchen sink area.

The "step" light switch is the one that lights under cabinets as well.

Just got back from the coach.  It's the middle switch of the three just inside the front door. That is the one that had me stumped.

The one with the green light turns on a ceiling light near the kitchen and the third switch turns on the porch/step light.

WHEW !  :o

Thanks
Ed

Edit  Oh Crap! John I think you are right.  I didn't really check the other two. If you say the Step light turns on the Floor Accent Lights then lets go with that. The porch light is stand alone.  Let's put this thread to sleep.

RE: front door switch for the overhead light. Does that green light ever go off? Mine remains on constantly.

The LED on switch by the door that turns on the ceiling light is on all the time and it lighted to show you where the switch is located on a dark entry, sort of a night light.

We disconnected the power to the LED when we put a water pump switch and LED at the door, so when all LEDs are off, we knew the water pump is off.

The switch that turns on the ceiling just triggers a latching relay that turns ceiling light on & off. 2nd switch also controls the same light.

If your eyes are night adjusted the green glowing led lights allow fairly good interior visibility versus stumbling around in total darkness.

LEDs placed on purpose in some areas it seems

My floor lights are controlled by the switch by the door that controls the step light.

On my 1995 U320 the floor rope lights are controlled by a switch panel as you enter the coach on your right.

On my 96 U295 the switch panel in the bedroom beneath the TV cabinet has a "CAB" switch for the cabinet interiors in the bedroom.

This was helpful as the interior lighting is hopefully next week's project.

But I am still wondering what genius decided to make the light switches:

1) Black where you can't see them at night
2) Hidden where you can't seem them even in daylight.

It's like they went out of their way to find the worse possible design.
