My a/c units were starting to show their age, noise and the DW thought she. Noticed the smell of a hot wire. Thought maybe tine for new heat pumps on roof.
Decided to take to Keystone RV in Pa.
Found some interesting things, front cover was missing, both units had a lot of dirt buildup.
Ed Biddinger worked nearly 2 hrs. to clean both units, lots of dirt everywhere, fans, evaporators, condensers, front was making a banging thump when it stopped.
Now like two new units, quieter, more air flow, no burn smell, no thumping. Units are 2001 models, assume they never been cleaned or not properly cleaned.
Now the good news, Keystone RV is 1900 ($950.00 in fuel) miles closer (round trip) than Nac, know they are good for the smaller things, but FOT, MOT & Xtreme for the biggie items.
Appears the a/c cover was never tightened as one loose screw remained. New cover $50.00. Total invoice $185.50. That is a new experience.
Sounds like you got great service and a very reasonable price. I clean the coils and inspect all wiring and connections once a year.
Bruce,
Hope all your plans are coming together for you folks.
As for Keystone RV, they were a Foretravel dealer at one time, no longer, they miss the Foretravel quality, however their lot is full of some interesting things I could not get interested in.
Thanks Dave, the plans are going nicely. The house has been sold we are moved in the coach (2 mos) I retire in March of next year. I did have a steering gear replaced 3 months ago, now it's leaking but the folks that did it just ordered a new one from Sheppard and will install it in one day while we wait.
Good news about Keystone RV. Another one to add to the list of "trusted places."
I have good vibes at Keystone, I try to explain what am wanting, they speak my version of English, do not just say fix it. I stay with the coach and everyone is happy. Seem to be just regular experienced happy folks who glad for a good job. No magic nor trying to sell some other service. Feel clear up front English reduces issues later.
My mechanic replaced a fan motor on my front ac unit... blew out the condensor which was full of dirt bugs and crud... dirt dobber nest out the wazu.. Both my units have been on the roof all the coach's life and I was prepaired to replace.. instead they continue to blow cold and run smooth.. someone knowing what they are doing is a beautiful thang.
I am tempted to put on new covers but the ones on it look better than one would think considering their age. I will wait until units need replaced.. Good that your ac issue was also easy to fix.. Easy is another beautiful thang.
