Title: Front TV upgrade, 40" Samsung by Temecula Valley RV
Post by: Tom Lang on September 05, 2014, 03:14:41 pm
Here are the photos of my new flat panel LED-LCD HD TV.

Samsung UN40H6400 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV

The component cabinet was cleaned out, taking away the Bose sound system and the VCR.  The DirecTV SD receiver was replaced by a HD DVR, and the sound system was replaced by a Samsung 5.1 system with the subwoofer in the same place the Bose Acoustimas unit sat.  They also replaced the switch box and added a thermostatically controlled fan.  The satellite dish is by RF Mogul I had that installed last January at the Indio FMCA event.

I am completely satisfied with the work.  I had always wanted to take the pilgrimage to Nac and have this done by either FOT or MOT, but I honestly feel Temecula Valley RV performed the work to the same standard of excellence.

Very nice, indeed! I especially like the image of the old Winnebago on the screen. Seems somewhat fitting as it was out with the old, in with the new. :)

Nice Tom, my only comment is that I would have thought they would have seperated the HD DVR  etc with some sort of perforated shelving as those units can get hot on top of each other, even with that fan which cannot cool in between units.
They have done some nice work all around in the coach.

I noticed that too.  I will probably see how it goes, especially with the fan, but have considered adding a little bit of space between components.  A paint stir stick with velcro on each side would make a world of difference.

I just installed a TV similar to Tom's.  Mine is the Samsung UN40H6350 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV, non 3-D.

The main reason for the upgrade from the 36" 2009 Samsung that was there, is to allow for a better experience using it as a computer monitor.  I have a little PC that is mainly used for the Silverleaf, and I use an iPad to extend the desktop to display the Silverleaf gauges while underway.  The old Samsung wouldn't work well with the PC, the monitor wouldn't activate when the PC was woken up from sleep mode.  The second reason was to get a bigger picture in the same space.  The original TV was an inch wider, about two inches taller, a good three inches thicker, and over 10 lbs. heavier.  The new TV is less obtrusive, as it doesn't project into the walkway as much.  The next size up, a 42" would have required some minor cabinet modification, so just decided to go with the 40".  And luckily, the same TV bracket was able to be used, as the new Samsung has the same exact hole pattern on the back for mounting.  The only modification needed was to drill new holes in the bracket to allow the new TV to be pretty snug against the ceiling, almost touching.

jennifer, don't forget you can plug a little hard drive into the u_s_b port and watch movies.

they can't listen if its unplugged from the internet or power. Best snoop device invented the "unplug" option.

Had an IT guy tell me of the risks of hacking our accounting data.. we didnt use it remotly, so I told him to put the server on a Paragon clock clock. Off at 7p, on at 530a. Have it backup then shut its self off at 30 minutes before ..the switch.. he looked at me and said.. what's a Paragon clock? :))

Oh yes, good idea.  It will be nice to just grab the mini hard drive full of all my movies instead of loading up on DVD's.

As for the listening, my conversations would get pretty boring, pretty fast.  Well, there were a couple of tense moments while installing some of the new LED lights that would be pretty funny to listen to now.  But from what I understand, the listening issue is only worrisome if you have the "voice command" feature enabled.  And this model doesn't even have that capability, so I guess I'm "safe."

TV looks good.  We have a 39" Vizio and really like it.  You can tidy up your electronics with a bit of work.  Hide all the wires, add lighting, add switched 110v outlets so that you shut power off to the whole package to reduce power use.

Looks great!  We've got to pull out the old Bose system too, it's still in there but nothing seems to work except the TV and some speakers installed in the overhead just inside the front windshield. We mostly use the TV as a monitor for the Mac mini and keep all the movies etc on a RAID array or long term storage with the Mac mini's drive being the ready access.  Hope our eventual reorganization goes as well. :-)

Seems like every one on this topic are removing there old Bose system . what year did FT start putting in the Bose system . my 92 shouldn't have this system but it dose . Everything on this U300 is loosey-goosey  at best  I also would love one of the systems any one has taken out . mine makes a gear noise when you put in a CD
