Title: Electrical System Problem Solving
Post by: milespepperd on September 08, 2014, 10:57:20 am
We are having a problem with the electrical system in our 1994 U280 Unihome.  It has a power tec 10 KW generator.  The electrical system works fine while using the inverter.  When we switch to the Generator, it powers up and then we slowly loose power to the house.  The generator does not change the output and is putting out 119 V to ground.  When we tried to use a 2000 W generator for power through the shore plug, we also lost power.  We were only running the lights, it was not overloaded. I am thinking it may the a problem with the inverter.  Does anyone know how to test the inverter or have other ideas for me?

With either the house generator or shore generator running, the inverter should not be in the loop. You must have a fault where the power is coming in the coach. When you plug in the shore power, you should hear (unless the shore generator is loud) a pretty good click coming from under the bed at the switch.

It may not have failed but just need points cleaned by a qualified electrical repairman.

Miles,

With generator off and shore power unplugged, open the transfer switch and tighten all contact screws.  Check for burned connections and contactors while you are there.  I spray mine with CorrosionX to keep it clean and conducting.

Plus, I agree you should hear a thunk when turning on the shore power breaker.
