I put a new belt and tensioner on 5.9 cummins and it still squeels! It looks as if this was a problem for the previous owner also. worn belt in the bay with side of oit wearing. that is what is happening to my new belt also >:( .
Does anyone have any experience fixing this tensioner / belt problem on a 5.9 ?
When I bought it the belt edge on it was worn off 20%, and it had a slight cherp. That is why I replaced it.
Thanks for your help everyone.
Replace the tensioner. (ebay has them)
Note the path the belt follows.
Use the recommended belt only (Gatorback).
The pivot end of the tensioner wears out before the pulley/bearing goes away (most of the time).
This is the cause of the belt edge wear btw.
Find a local parts house that loans tools and borrow the slim, long tensioner tool to move the tensioner enough to slip the new belt in place.. pc
What does the belt drive? Water pump.. power steering..
Sounds like you also have an alignment problem of pulleys if one side is wearing out. Pierce wrote about that a while back. Check with straight edge across them for a quick test.

The reason I asked what the belt drives is because with age of your coach "and mine" = no 1 or 2 serpentine.
well... I just took off the Chinese made new tensioner and found that the nub was broken off, I replaced the wheel (it was making noise in the first place) from the new one to my old tensioner.
Now I put the new belt that FT said I need ( k080620) and there is too much play and the tensioner is not tightening it up.
The shredded edge belt that I found in the coach was a k080610 and it will not go over the alternator pulley. The recommended belt is 1/2" larger than the old one I found. now I have to try to get a belt in between sizes? any suggestions are always welcomed.

Not trying to be a smart a**, but that is one reason I don't do much work myself. I worked with aggravation for many years and sure not going back to it...

If your old belt is still in one piece take it to O'rielys and have them match it,they have a device that can measure the belt.

I ended up buying progressively smaller belts (3 total) until it quieted up. The final belt on it now was a tight stretch to get it on, but it works fine and quiet now.
For the "App Junkies" out there,I got on stumps Gates site and looked around, they have an App you can get to analyze your belt
condition, not for me but some may love it.
